It all began with this record shop called Boots opening its doors in Hannover in 1974,
...or maybe w/ the cult “Neue Welle”-label GeeBeeDee formed a few years later,
…or, if we skip the ancient off-topic bits, with the creation of distribution/production company SPV (Schallplatten Produktion und Vertrieb) in 1984 by Boots/GeeBeeDee co-founder Manfred Schütz. As we all know, 1984 was a great year for our favourite Rock’n’Roll subgenre, and SPV’s in-house Metal label Steamhammer quickly became its most successful imprint. Today SPV is one of the largest independent production companies in the world and it’s all thanx to a little sodomy and lust. The End.

Some notes on the list:

• First sorted by Steamhammer’s unique serial-index (SH 00##) used in the early days, later by their SPV#’s. It get’s a bit messy in the middle, but you’ll get the hang of it.


• They’re still an active label and and never really slowed down or took a break since its beginnings, so their complete discography is HUGE. Once again I’ve had to put a stop to the list based purely on personal taste and what I consider on-topic for the The Corroseum. Their 1984-1991 years felt like the best era to cover.


• At the end of the page I’ve added the releases on their shortlived Steamhammer/SPV USA-franchise, or at least the titles I’ve found so far. I’m grateful for all help on filling in the blanks.
