The encyclopedia is a great read. I went through the whole thing after returning from KIT, but have returned to it since.

Thanks a lot for handing me the CD-R at KIT, Dan. I've been playing it in the car at all times since - some of the stuff is amazing - I had only heard about half of it and I have even fewer of those 7"s

Seconded, the compilation is a fascinating listen, many thanks DaN.
The bands from that part of the world definitely have something quite distinct about their sound that makes them somewhat 'otherly' and distinct from the other scenes of the same era.
I've barely played it a half dozen times but i'm hooked good & proper.

On Projektil, the back cover is shown both times, while on the football comp (!!!), you are shown the Black Coffee 7" above. I am talking when enlarging the pics...

I was searching for the FWOEHM article relatively recently, so there's one reason it's great to see the Corroseum up and working again. I'll have to do some (illegal) copying of your material there DaN, please tell me if you mind. Just have to make sure I can refer to it when required

Index Y had another heavier 7" in 1986 which is kind of Prog/Hard Rock hybrid that's getting pretty heavy in certain places:

Also there is at least one more Karamel 7" available, maybe even 2.

The Markyz John 7" is missing, aver quite cool when also melodic piece. Much better/catchy than their "1991" LP.

As for Berluc, one 7" that does contain heavier exclusive non album melodic Hard Rock material is the "1000 Hände/Zeig dein Gesicht" 7" from 1985.
Also as refering to Madgeburg, their last 7" called "Hundsgemein" does include exclusive material. Shortly later they could leave the DDR ...

Don't know what the other stuff of them sounds like but this "Kaskader" 7" contains NWOBHM-ish heavy Boogie Hard Rock, not much worse than certain british bands.

This band is strange Art Rock, Prog/Hard Rock, a bit Doom Metal. This is a DLP, 1 side sounds kinda like Paul Chain ... on the 7 inches it's the same. Partly Hard Rock, other side Art Rock or something ...

Odyssea is Hard Rock/AOR too.

Michal Penk had a few Hard Rock/Rock singles too in the 80's ... but more softish though ...

Cheers for the tips Prowler! Some comments:

INDEX Y - I wasn't aware that they made more than 3 singles. Got a rip of this to share? I'm also looking for the 2nd 7" from 1982, Krátká Báseň / Zasklená Tvář.

KARAMEL - They made at least 6 more 7"s but everything I've heard after the debut has been too lightweight to feature.

MARKYZ JOHN - Yes, this 7" has been on my radar/in my wantlist for quite a while, even though I've suspected it will be too mainstream for the site. Maybe I'm wrong on that account? Got rips?

CITRON - No HR or HM on any of the first 9 (!) singles from them afaik, so they're intentionally excluded.

BERLUC - Heard it before and thought it was just below the heaviness-level I've sat for the page.

MECH - I haven't heard anything from the early Mech singles that I think would classify as HM or "Heavy HR/proto-Metal", more like typical proggy 70's rock. This live version of Kaskader = prog in my ears.

STROMBOLI - Will look into them..

Oh and MAGDEBURG, are you saying those two tracks are different versions that the ones on the "Verkehrte Welt" LP? I don't own the LP myself, to compare.

STROMBOLI belong firmly into progressive rock realm, as it was reformed with 'neo' standards in the 80's, which means that harder edges were sort-of demanded. IMHO not heavier than, say, ANEKDOTEN.

Listen to the whole song, I don't know how to label their style. Starting as Rock then getting faster with doublebass drums at the end Heavy Metal solos, the other track sounds similar, almost epic:

Basically in remembrance that it's your "complete encyclopedia" but if the Messlatte are singles like the ones of Vilem Cok, Karamel, Signal, Extra Band, first Turbo (Pol) and few others, then there's definitely no "excuse" to not feature bands like Nova Ruze, Odyssea, Turbo (Cze), some Katapult or even late 80's Olympic material. It definitely can't be a wrong turn ...
