METALLICA (hard to put a tag to the kind of shit they play nowadays, surely not metal)
PYOGENESIS (not sure if they are considered successful though)
ANATHEMA (do not know what are they doing these days, last time I checked their albums they sounded like Porcupine Tree and Pink Floyd)
Good against Evil, Evil sure to win

I've heard that E-Type (Swedish techno-artist) played drums in Maninnya Blade and Hexenhaus. Also the drummer of Kent (probaably one of the biggest bands in Sweden at the moment) played in the death metal-band Macrodex. Nicke Andersson could also be mentioned, I guess, Hellacopters were quite succesful.

There's that Juanes guy from Colombia who apparently had a Hard Rock/Heavy Metal band back in the 90s. I don't even know the name of the band nor if they were "real" Metal or not, but I've read about this in several places.

There's a rumor going around that Jeff Waters of Annihilator is the man behind a very popular pop band.

Don't know if some of you remember VAYA CON DIOS (had some big hits in the late '80s and sold over 7 million records worldwide)?

Their singer (Dani Klein) started her carreer in STEELOVER:

It's very well known that AC Wild from Bulldozer made a fortune producing several disco/techno dance stuff.

not exactly "famous" or "commercial" really but POSSESSED's Larry Lalonde later played in PRIMUS (both him and Les Claypool also in BLIND ILLUSION before PRIMUS too)

SAVATAGE are still quite more popular in my book than TRANS-SIBERIAN ORCHESTRA but they apparently make big bucks with that so guess counts ;)

Yeah, the first thing that came to mind was Larry LaLonde but then I guessed Primus is not really that much of a "big" band.
And I think I remember reading in the interview Dan did about a Sarcofagus (session?) member that was also a best selling pop singer in Finland.

Primus was pretty popular here in the States for awhile, plus they do the South Park theme so... Plus it always cracks me up that all these middle aged, christian ladies fill up arenas over here to go see TSO, all the while not knowing that their roots are buried deep in that old-devil music...Heavy Metal!!!

Ok then we should also name Blind Illusion, where both LaLonde and Les Claypool played before Primus.
And Gizz Butt from English Dogs (and I see he's now playing in Sabbat) played in The Prodigy for a while.
