SHIVA - Continuance (1983) UK

For the sake of completeness, as their debut's been posted (and because i already had it uploaded), here's the second & final Shiva album too.
"Continuance" was (mainly) originally recorded in 1983 but didn't see the light of day until much much later.
As the title suggests, it's pretty much in the style of the first album, although the production is a bit slicker.
Good stuff to my ears, see what you think.

John Hall - Lead Vocals, Guitars, Keyboards
Andy Skuse - Bass, Vocals, Keyboards
Phil Williams - Drums

Tracks 1-7 are demos for an unreleased second album recorded in 1983.
Tracks 8-10 are from the first Shiva demo when the band was still a four-piece.
Tracks 11-12 are from a session when the band was a three piece with Simon "Jack" Carver on drums.

just 50-50.... even the debut Lp wasn't too hard if compared to the other bands that were around.. This compilation is not bad, but definitely not memorable either unless for the sake of completeness. Surprisngly i never bought it when it came out

I like this one a lot. More than the debut even.

According to their myspace, the band never got a penny for this release. Not surprising from a label that keeps going under and reviving under a new name.

No problem, glad that there's interest in this one as i don't think it got a wide enough audience when it was released.
Sorry jnfernal, seems like you're in the minority regarding this one, maybe a few more listens could change your mind?

I have to say that the more i listen to it the more i am getting into it... Perhaps because I had a rush of.. RUSH recently

Yes, as Krescendo Records. But I think most of their releases are illegal(using out of date contracts?), or at least the bands don't get paid.

I just checked out if their releases are still being sold, they are, but now at almost twice the price.

Cool stuff! The 1983 demos really boost the Rush influence. The guitar solos are great throughout, especially on the opening cut. Will get many more plays out of this.

Didn't care as much for the pre-Firedance recordings as it seems the singer hadn't quite found his voice and the riffing is less distinctive.

One of the most musical bands of the period, I reckon. Still, it's not hard to understand that they'd have been overlooked at the time.

Did they ever play live?

Glad you enjoyed it Professor.
I know the band did play live at the time, i recall seeing dates in Sounds or Kerrang! back in the day, but i'm unsure how regularly they played or if it was local or if they got around the country much or abroad.
I do know however that (for some reason) their final gig was in the USA, at one of the well known clubs on the Sunset Strip in Los Angeles. It may have been @ the Whisky-A-Go-Go of all places, but my memory ain't what it used to be.
Maybe someone can clarify the details and/or explain how this came about?

May I suggest buying the CD of this album *hint* *hint*.

It was the Troubadour actually, because guitarist/vocalist John Hall had moved to the USA.
