SHORES OF EVENING(US) - 'The Shore of Evening' 1985

Post by daniel »

Ta-daaa!

For N.W.O.O.F.G.M. and whoever else it may concern.

I had been warned via notes slipped under my chamber door as thunder rode the darkened heavens, of a strange force which travelled the kingdom. Said to assume the shape of a toad-faced fish with tentacular limbs in the ocular of mortals, its legend preceded it like fleeing slaves escaping the whips of warlords. This impending doom brought a tempest to my soul, my courage hung like tattered rags about my body and I wept in the recesses of lightless corridors.
In the gloom I found my North Star in my memories of ancient tomes once read, I fought to recall the arcane passages many a night, and at last it caught flame within my mind as I gazed inwardly upon secrets I now would recite in hope of respite amidst the end of days.
The symbols were drawn in chalk and oaken wands traced the light.
As the vortex raged around my protective wizardry I called out my wish, my cry for knowledge. So many visions had I witnessed wherein one single item shone grail-like beyond my mortal hands, always was I left fallen to my knees with tears of denied conquest staining the shores of dream. But now I held the keys in my astral hands, and I crossed that bridge to redemption! The winds fled whence they came and the candles reclaimed their soft glow, I lay short of breath upon the familiar floor...
Now it was in my hands, the ultimate secret... I stumbled across the chamber, clambered, barely keeping from dropping the object I held; the obsidian disc was mine, I was soon to bask in its weave of melodies, soon to review its secrets, I carried on, to the shores of evening. ...

But, what lies beyond is your quest and yours alone weary traveller.

it's not a sword he's holding, it's a dried banana

first you think, oh it's a rather childish drawn warrior with fainting girl on the floor facing an evil a guy but after a closer look it actually is a pumped up günther pleasureman with barbarian gear and a dried banana with a white, hairy blob to his feet facing an evil turd with horns shooting fire things

I just finished listening to it...

Ok, this is definitely not great stuff, but it was actually better than what I expected.

Obviously, judging by the cover, one should expect melting steel coming out of the speakers, however. the band is a lot tamer, and to my ears the seemed to be a little bit unfocused, in their attempt to be commercial. The singer is a bit "blah" and sometimes annoying, and the songwriting is nothing to write home about, since it lacks inspiration. Best song probably is the instrumental that opens the album.

Overall, this is not the worst piece of music I have ever listened to, it is simply mediocre.

Still, if the record shop that currently carries this album, decides to drop the price a little bit more, I might consider picking it up, just for the wonderfully amateurish cover.

Ha ha ha... oh wow... First of all thanx to Daniel for sharing this one. I always wanted to hear it since I first heard of it's crapness, mainly to see if it would qualify as a Monumental WORST-of-the-Worst Metal album. Unfortunately it doesn't. Musicwise this is just mediocre rock, sometimes crossing over into HR. "Wreck This House Down" is hilarious though - if I ever do an "Incredibly Strange Metal vol. 2" comp that one's a strong contender...

It definitely has "outsider music"-qualities, but even in that genre it's still a mediocrity. My 1-sentence review: A bit like Dwarr, minus EVERYTHING that made Dwarr cool.

I honestly enjoy this record, it's all over the place, it's so weird I'm just happy to have it. I wasn't let down cos I knew it wouldn't be metal. There are some cool things in there, like the synth-riff at the end of the first track, 'Fists In The Air' is hilarious cos the music couldn't be more off the mark, there's the ludicrous synthesizer flourishes on 'Go Home', and I really LIKE 'Long Gone' :)

I think Knell's secretly a cross dresser as well.

It would sum up his tastes in Metal.
