Ebay search question

Post by Khnud »

First, take a look at this picture:

Image

Under "All items" a total of 9,402,106 results are found. If I add the number of results in each subcategory under Music (left frame, under "Categories") I get a total of only 7,039,350 results. That means 2,362,756 listings in "Music" are not categorized in any subcategory, and as such not browsable unless you want to go through all the nine million plus results (and you don't!). This also means any vinyl record sold which is not listen in the "Records" subcategory (i.e. among the ≈ two million results mentioned above) will not show up on e.g. Popsike, even if it sells for $1000, right? I'm guessing Popsike only searches in the "Records" subcategory.

So, question is: Am I correct on this, or am I missing something?

this may have to do with subcategories that exist in some countries but not in all (or on the ebay site you are logged in).
know the phenomenon, when I look for vinyl they are categorized in "Vinylschallplatte" in Germany but "records" anywhere (?) else. those categories somehow don't synchronize. When searching "LP" worldwide I'd have maybe 50 matches within my countrie's vinyl category but maybe 250 worldwide, but uncategorized, because the categories are differently named. with CDs if I rememember correctly it's different because CDs are "CDs" anywhere.
So, browsing without a search topic does not work properly in all categories worldwide - as far as I experienced.

about what will find its way into popsike and how I have no idea.

I don't think so, as you can also find tapes on popsike ...

Only tapes that were listed under the records category. Some sellers do that on rare demos and such to increase exposure (just like an auction title may state "megadeth peace sells cd lp shirt"). Simple search manipulation, but popsike can't tell the difference.

You can find gramophones and tour posters on Popsike as well. As long as it's posted in the "Records" category, Popsike doesn't care..

And how hard can it be to sync Records with Vinylschallplatte?
