Dark Age

Post by The Sentinel »

Don't know if this one has been discussed yet, but this record belongs to my favourites from the US vault. As great as for instance Glaciers EP. Songs like "The Execution / Messenger To Ascheron" or "Warrior" drive me nuts. Does this band recorded more stuff?

Fucking glorious masterpiece of a record.

Here I must stress that it is incredibly important to get the the european pressing on Roadrunner and not the original US pressing. One song differs on the respective pressings. The european pressing has the song "Dark Age" which is their best. An incredible epic, gloomy and atmospheric tune. The US pressing has "Rock Revelation" instead, which incidentially is their weakest tune so on the whole the european pressing is much stronger.

Excellent album, nice mystic atmosphere on it.
I have a Roadrunner pressing myself but I'm quite sure that the tracklisting on the cover is from the US press. Hmm, I have to check that out when I get home. I haven't spinned this gem in a while.

Yeah I didn't know about the different tracklisting either... but I found myself a sealed Euro press for 10e now, have to have the tracklist checked before I order it though.

I actually like Rock Revelation a lot - one of the best songs on it IMO. But I need to look for the European pressing too now. Never knew the tracks were different.

Don't trust the track listing! The back cover of the european press lists the same tracks as the US press, but the record doesn't have "Rock Revelation" on it, it has "Dark Age" instead. The labels shows the correct track listing, but apparently they forgot to change it on the back cover.

Just as I remembered. Just listened to the album and I must say that "Viper" is still my favorite song from it. Guitar rffing in that one is just the way I like, makes my fist go to air in no time.

I used to talk to the singer years ago... Can't say I have a very clear memory of what we used to talk about, kind of got mixed up with other bands... I'll dig up some conversations and see if there was anything worth mentioning, I'm pretty sure he said there was some unreleased stuff - but once again - I may be getting confused with another band.

Edit: I think I deleted the later conversations, but here's one:

We actually did go into the studio and recorded several tracks for a second album for roadrunner records in the netherlands but it never jelled. We had a picture disc of an ep and a cassette and an import on roadrunner records(holland).
Did my picture ever come? next time will send some live concert pix.We were ranked # 12 in the billboard indie top 100 in 1985.

This is one of the best US metal records,"Dark Age" is indeed a fabulous track, but seems this LP is not expensive enough to make it a classic, thus never actually became the "talk of the town" among metalheads' conversations.A friend of mine has a video tape with a few unreleased stuff i think....
