I was listening yesterday to the bootleg split cd with Missio' 1
The Lp "Gladiator" is not bad, it reminds me a lot another band from East Europe but I can't recall the name...memory is going fucked...
anyway, with my great surprise I found their official website:
http://www.impulse-band.dir.bg/_wm/catalog/?df=14
And there are listed a lot of album never heard before nor listed on the metal-archives.
I could find only the first Lp, "Impuls 1" recorded in 1985
On the back cover of the LP there is a nice biography:
"The group Impulse was founded in May 1981. The young musicians, being very good performers, became quickly popular. All of them are graduates of the Pop Music Department if the Bulgarian State Conservatoire, and Nelko Kolarev has also majored in conductorship at the Conservatoire.
The Group "Impulse" has taken part in a number of TV and radio programmes. In 1985 their composition "You came to me" set on words by Salis Tadjer won the Youth Competition for Pop Songs. Their song "Snow" by I. Kunchev and E. Evtimov received the highest mark in the "Melody of the Year" TV top list in March 1986.
Three singles of "Impulse" have been released by now, all of them were warmly accepted by the admirers. The first LP that is offered now includes the most popular songs of the group. It was created after a long period of artistic systematization and experimenting in a serious professional attitude. The musicians' aim is to find the most appropriate style and way of releasing their individual qualities. They succeeedes in establishing an original music style of their own in standing apart from the others, in attaining an interesting modern sound. The group's style in this record is the so-called "art rock" or "symphony rock". The sound of the songs is determined mainly by the interesting figures on the keyboards, by the special intertwining of classical and rock'n'roll elements - a pattern charateristic of the "art rock style". The songs are skillfully composed, arranged and performed. The texts are topical and up-to-date, they enhance the effect of the modern original sound. SOme of the representetive pieces of the records are: "If you go for a moment", "Snow", "Don't go", "Midnight music"
Now...the above mentioned Lp is pretty boring and has nothing to do with heavy metal (not that the "Gladiator" Lp is 100% metal too), it's really symphonic pop/rock, with a lot of pop and very few touches of rock.
But on their website there are listed several other releases:
-380 Volts/380 Volta (recorded in 1986)
-Losho gadzhe/Bad boyfriend (tape recorded in 1995)
-Autopsiya na edna durzhava/Autopsy of a country (recorded in 1998)
-20 godini zdrav rok/20 years of healthy rock (compilation with songs from 1978 (?) to 1990)
plus another album to be released in 2008 called "Zhelyazna toyaga" (that seems like an unreleased album recorded after the "Gladiator" Lp) and a Live Lp.....can't find any information about their effective release
Now...I was really interested in listening to the "380 Volts" recorded in 1986. Was it ever released in Lp or CD? Or is it just a tape/demo? How does it sound?
And, another question: does the compilation "20 years of healthy rock" ever released on CD? It would be nice to find it as there are several unreleased songs released between 1987-1990 on it, that should be definitively metal.
By the way....I even mispelled the name of the country....

Impulse formed in Sofia, Bulgaria in 1981 and I first heared this band when I bought "Gladiator". I was interested in hearing some Eastern Europe 80s metal. Although is an old band, their early stuff has nothing to do with heavy metal.
This is a video from 1984 in which Impulse perform one of their most famous songs "Ako ti si otidesh za mig"

Here's an another TV appearance in which Impulse perform "Gladiator"

I like Ipulse even in their non-metal stuff so If someone knows where to download their albums, just inform me. I've only found their "hit" Ako ti si otidesh za mig.

"380 Volts" is not a metal album. In fact I hate to say it, but IMPULSE were never a metal band. They just used the time and had one metal album (with songs "borrowed" from Racer X among others) recorded with drum computer...
Sadly, but Ilya Kunchev suddenly passed away two months ago from lung cancer and there will be no unreleased albums or DVDs as announced previously.
