INCANTATION death metal

Post by The Sentinel »

Yeah, death metal for a change. One of those great diabolical bands with that stunning evil atmosphere. The first records belong in every serious death metal collection. Onward to Golgotha describes hell the way it has to be. They smoke live too. Saw them once somewhere in the 90's with only 3 people (me, a friend of mine and someone in a wheelchair) in the "audience", that was a great concert. More fans of this band?

yes I have Onward red vinyl and a 7" . I like those but they're not the pinnacle of evil doom death for me as for some other people. I think stuff like Delirium (Hol) for example is way more twisted but that's all a matter of taste I guess

Mortal Throne of Nazarene is their best and most twisted work in my opinion, but the first 3-4 are crushing, and everything after is solid.

Not that the first two albums are bad, but this one's my favourite. Crushing brutal death metal at its best.

Time to confess something...I've not heard any 1990's Incantation yet. But I'm buying an Onward to Golgotha CD soon from a friend...when I have money.

It's been a while since I've listened to INCANTATION, it was one of my fave Death Metal 15 years ago, the first three albums are great. I think it's time for me to listen to those again !

My fave is Mortal Throne Of Nazarene also; some relentless bone crushing extremely dark apocalyptic anti-christian death metal. I've never heard the altered version of "Mortal Throne of Nazarene" called "Upon The Throne Of Apocalypse". Does someone know that one?

It seems that "Onward to Golgotha" also has an altered version. Don't know that one either; someone else does?

I've a few 7" which are ok but the albums have never really rocked my world, also lost a lot of interest after watching them fumble their way through a gig a few years back - a 7/10 band for me

Aaaagghh...Incantation!! One of my favourite death metal-bands!!! I love everything up to "Blasphemy". I think they lost some of that 'evil' athmosphere on the last two albums. It's getting a bit 'samey' also after all those years. The fact that John is now handling the vocals isn't that great either ; his predecessors were waaaayyy better. Especially live he falls short of delivering those dark growls.
I have the 'raw' version of "Mortal Throne...", "Upon The Thone Of Apocalypse". Sounds great also!! It's not a basement recording or something like that. It's the original rough mix of the album, as stated in the liner notes. If you like "Mortal Throne...", you'll surely love this version too!! I think there were only a couple of thousand pressed.
If everything goes as planned, there will be a 'rough mix-version' of "Onward..." available this year. But that's all I know for the moment.
However, if you call yourself a fan of 'real' death metal, your collection isn't complete without "Onward...", "Mortal...", "The Forsaken..." and "Diabolical..."!!! "The Infernal Storm" and "Blasphemy" maybe aren't considered 'classics', but I like those albums as much as the older ones...

haha 3 people, they came to Australia about 6 years ago and the show here consisted of about 10 people. They then had a car accident on the way to Sydney and couldn't perform a full set. I think with the help of some local session musicians 3-4 tracks were played. Onward to Golgotha is a death metal masterpiece.

I think hey are one of the greatest OSDM in general and what makes them even greater is the fact that they have never sold out, like other bands that became either melodic, technical or -core. McEntee has maintained his style for two decades and I hope we can enjoy more of that style in the future and I certainly hope they come here to play live again :D.
