I really enjoyed this one, even if both tracks that were new to me are far from masterpieces, they kind of added a new dimension to what Cloven Hoof was all about. David Potter sounded so different on the opening track that I thought there maybe was another singer - his style on these recordings seems more melodic and restrained, lacking the demonic recital style that is his strongest card on the debut album. What was Lee Payne's influences btw. I got the feeling he had listened to Angel as much as Judas Priest when hearing this. All in all, this ranged from good to great and was a really interesting listening. I appreciate your uploading of it, OoH! Thanks!
You haven't heard the version on Dominator? In that case you should go a hunting! Russ North does really well on that version, although the production is a total mess on that album. There is also another "Pottered" version is on the CD release of the debut album (from the BBC Friday Rock Show) with good sound (a bit flat vocally, though - the demo version is better in that aspect I think).DaN wrote:Played it yesterday. Dude you must get DOMINATOR. The production fuckin sucks tho. This album deserves a proper remaster. It's such a shame that this magnificent slab of old school power metal is detracted by a bad production job.DaN wrote:Played it yesterday. On a sidenote, last time i saw CLOVEN HOOF, few months ago, they blew my brains out. Incredible setlist and Russ North was simply unbelievable. I thought it was the yound bands that were supposed to show us how Heavy Metal with PASSION is played, however it's some 40 yo headbangers those who show the way.
