Yeah, reading the Q&A there seem to be some doubt about Steve Harris being on it. Still, if it is a unique recording of a band with at least a connection to Iron Maiden I'm not at all surprised by the price. I sense a bootleg coming out real soon.
This IS however a real scoop:

This is where the legendary Mods Mayday album was recorded way back in 1979 and many bands started off their career. Iron Maiden, Cock Sparrer, Secret Affair all played this famous venue.
Talk about a treasure chest! We seriously need to follow this guy's auctions. Anyone planning on bidding on some of those unknown demos? Boris?

I was the one pointing out in the Q&A that Harris and Wilcock couldn't be on this recording.
But there might be a Maiden riff or 2 in some songs. It is a rare recording for sure, the first Smiler recording known to public. Could be very interesting to hear. I am in contact with the buyer, so eventualy I will know if there's anything interested in it.
But yes, you're absolutely rigth, my jaw hit the floor when I read about the 3000 tapes!!! What a goldmine! Very much looking foreward to see what comes up. I am very tempted to buy some of the recordings from unknown bands.

It would be kinda cool if this forum could make that kind of an impact, but I don't we're quite there yet
Besides, I'd prefer it if someone hereabouts bids and wins some of these tapes and share them, rather than them ending up in the secret vault of some anonymous supercollector.
Interesting for sure.
I doubt I bother bidding on any of them. I've never been a fan of cassettes, and I don't have the money to go bidding on tapes by bands I know absolutely nothing about. I'm sure there are some good bands in the pile, but there's gonna be a lot of junk too, and I'm not interested in shelling out for tapes of bands that sound like crap. Sure, the recordings may be rare, but if the band can barely hold a tune, much less a good tune, then congratulations- you just paid a bunch of money for the only copy of a really shitty-sounding recording No thanks.
For someone who has money to burn so that they don't really care if the music ends up sounding like crap, then yeah, that person's gonna have a field day with these auctions

The auction for the EDGE demo just ended. Not too expensive if you ask me. The mere excitement of hearing something new & unique from this scene could be worth the cash imo.
cosign DaN's last post. If it's about $20 US or so it's probably worth it and if it stinks there's probably someone else out there that will pay what you did for it making it a low risk venture.
why did the charlie brown or whatever strangely named nwobhm demo went so high
I'd pick it up for a few pounds so if it's not a biggie if its shit but 21!? bah
