Diawled or Y diawled?

Post by JonahQuizz »

After several discussions with Nighlock on MSN we agreed that this question have to be taken to the corroseum! He and many other people call this great N.W.O.B.M band "Y Diawled". I think this is only because there is some strange "dot" in front of Diawled on the Noson y Blaidd EP but if you look at the two other releases there clearly isn't any Y before. It's not even sure that this letter/dot even is a Y I think. So who do you agree with, me or mr.Nightlock? Does anyone has any certain information from the band themselfs?

I have uploaded a picture of the S.O.S 7" on metal-archives there was noone before. On this picture you can clearly see that there simply are no Y.

EDIT: Jim also listed them as simply "Diawled" when he sold all of their releases on ebay about one month ago

I've always thought they were Y Dialwed, Which I think (Welsh help please) translates to "The Devil".

Well, they've used both:

First 7"
Second 7"

...but I've always referred to them as Y DIAWLED.

Edit: "Y" = "The", right?

well. I wonder what they called themselfs. 'cause on Noson y Blaidd it doesn't even look like a Y according to me:P Looks more like an N or something

Because I don't know... you're illiterate? It's obviously a "y" on that cover in your usual old english type font.

Slightly off topic and you all probably new this anyhow, but there is no direct translation for Y Diawled to English by the looks of it. At leats according to the University of Wales Lampeter

However removing the Y and just having Diawled translates to "Devils" or also "Bastards".

"Y" in Welsh is THE so I would imagine they are called THE DEVILS

...and "Noson Y Blaidd" = "Night Of The Wolf" if memory serves me right. Any clue what "Dewch Gyda Ni" means?
