The new IRONSWORD is at the pressing plant right now. I know a lot of people were asking about it and I have heard it many times and really I'm really really impressed. Not to take away anything from their 2 previous classic albums, but this one is the best yet.
The one and only IRONSWORD, hailing from Portugal is back with a very long anticipated album! Going strong for well over a decade now, IRONSWORD is the only band that is not only influenced by the Epic Metal masters, MANILLA ROAD, but they are the only band that sounds closest to MANILLA ROAD (somewhere in the Open The Gates/The Deluge/Mystification era MANILLA ROAD). Speaking of MANILLA ROAD, there will be a special appearance of Mark Shelton singing along with Tann (what an honor)!!! "Overlords Of Chaos" is going to be their 3rd full-length effort and to me sounds much more focused and diverse. The overall song writing is more developed, memorable, and with more catchy chorus lines than the 2 previous, but classic albums. This album from the amazing artwork provided by Martin Hanford to the last note on the album will blow all fans of Epic Metal away!
1. Death Of The Gods
2. An Ending In Fire
3. Overlords Of Chaos
4. Blood And Honor
5. Cimmeria
6. Wrath Of Crom
7. Hyperborean Hordes
8. Road Warriors
9. Fear The Night
10. Dark Shadows Of Stygia
11. Crown Of Iron
12. Call Of Cthulhu
13. The Pyre Of Kings
I'm really looking forward to this and I'm sure you're right that it will be their best album. I always thought Iron Sword's strongest side was their ideas and composing, while they weren't always 100% on the execution. One would expect that they would become better able to bring things across in time, so this will probably be on the short list for "best record 2008".
Oh, and the cover is awesome, but you already knew that of course.
I know I ain't doing much,
doing nothing means a lot to me.
The year's best album for me is the Lamp of Thoth one. Don't really think there'll be a better album, but I'll definitely listen to this before I make my mind up.

This one will be giving THE LAMP a run for it's money.
I have to hear THE LAMP in full to see where it's gonna sit at my year end list.

Well, you have something to look forward to. As do I, come to think of it.

No doubt...! Whether the LAMP is better will remain to be see... as of this point, IRONSWORD is #1 by far, but we still have a long 4 months ahead of us.

Don't forget the new Witchfinder General album!
To say that I'm looking forward to the new Ironsword is a understatement. I remember hearing Return Of The Warrior when EMR rereleased it and being blown away. True, "manly" epic metal the way it's supposed to be!
This record fucking RULES. I'm ashamed to admit it, but this is the only thing I've heard from these guys. I'll definitely be tracking down the other two albums ASAP.
Hah weird, never liked anything coming from Ironsword, which was always a combined running wild/omen rip off.
and here they are, releasing the album we've (I've been) been expecting Manilla Road to release since Mark Shelton reformed the band. This is spot on Mystification,as far as a European band can come close to it.cool.
Not that the RW/Omen ''influences'' do not exist this time, they are just not everywhere in this album, which is more in the MR tradition. I had the same problem with the other Ironsword releases, the ripping off from omen and RW was annoying, but even in that case, i was always finding a couple of killer tracks in each album. Anyway, OoC is not a masterpiece, but to me it's their best album to date, Fear the night, Cimmeria, Wrath of Crom are excellent tracks.
Good against Evil, Evil sure to win
