Quick Intro + Vibrations of Doom Question

Post by nightsblood »

Hi- hope no one minded me dredging up some of the older topics; I just started posting here and have been digging through the old posts out of curiosity. Very cool site! I post over at Lapland Metal regularly, so a few of you may 'recognize' me from there (same user name). I'm a 30s-something SWM that's been headbanging for about 20 years and have always been interested in obscure heavy metal, although I don't have a very impressive collection. I've 'studied' NWOBHM for years but have recently been trying to learn more about early 80s US and Swedish metal too.
Quick question- is there some trick to making the sound files on Vibrations of Doom website play? I know they're not downloadable or anything, but I can't get anything over there to play- I just get an error message from RealPlayer when I click on the song links, but my RP is up to date. Thanks for any help; I wanted to hear some more of that Crowhaven album that AxeCrazy currently has listed on ebay. Someone else told me they have the same problem w/ VoD. Could it be a problem for Mac users vs PC users?

No, I have the same problems too. But I remember having no problems with the site using my old PC and Internet Explorer (I use Firefox now).

Same problem here with my own PC, I can only play them at work but then again, the rest of my colleagues prefer Dutch radio :(

It could be Firefox indeed, think I gonna switch again

I use Firefox and I have no problems with Vibrations of Doom (your post made me think again of this website! ).
However, I use the K-lite mega codec pack (v3.50) with media player classic and it's this last software that reads the file. You have to read files one by one (at least at my knowledge) but all works fine.

I believe I have this pack too. So that's probably not the solution.

I haven't heard the files since real player was in its prime, I don't like real player because it attempts to overthrow all media players so I haven't had it for many years, besides that I have 70% of those releases downloaded in what I call the VOD collection .

Welcome!

I don't use Vibrations Of Doom. You can download most of that stuff as mp3s from www.thrashmageddon.com. My entire rip of Crowhaven is there.

I haven't used thrashmageddon in quite some time, I've always gotta decide what I want to download first due to those stupid rapidshare limits.

I refuse to pay 15 us dollars for 7 songs, I also do not support shadow kingdom/evil legend as they showed their worship of miskatonic quite explicitly, I just find it quite stupid to buy from someone who I do not agree with, I guess that is the what happens when you come in contact with such people online, Its better to not know much about them.

You can't buy much music then. Most mailorders sell bootlegs or horrible commercial music that you can't agree with either...

Probably not working for some of you guys because you're missing codecs of some kind in your software, You should be able to find out from whatever errors you're getting and download the codecs for free.
