The Sabbatical Worship Thread
What you get from mixing dirty thrash, black metal and nwobhm-influences together? Yes, you are correct, it's SABBAT.
With discography blacker than 'Caller of the Storms' and longer than Dan's beard they struck to me as a funny but overall good band. Some releases are killers and others are just decent but most of them have great covers!
So.. any opinions of this japanese cult band?

My personal favorites are Sabbat 7", Bloody Countess and Sabbatical Devilucifer which sounds very much like early sodom if you ask me!
I think they managed to write some memorable solos like the ones in Mion's Hill for example.

Sabbat has been my favourite band for many years, everybody in my surrounding, even the non-metal people, recognize the name by now.
First and foremost the music is ofcourse just great. And secondly, how many bands still make the same underground anti-commercial music 20 years after they started? One of the very few bands that hasn't wimped out, nothing but respect from my side. And the big discography, I think a regular fan can do just fine with the full-lenght CD's who are almost all widely available as rereleases. The live-albums, special editions etcetera, that's for completist fruitcakes like me
Got a pretty fucking big collection myself (well over 100 audio carriers, mostly vinyl, plus a dozen shirts, and my Sabbat patchjacket which I was given as a gift ofcourse)
Favourite release? The Sabbatical rites LP probably (first 4 singles combined), or the 10th anniversary CD trilogy.

Here's an interview with gezol about metalucifer and sabbat:

Somehow i've missed this interview which again proves the greatness of the frontman Gezol! How can you hate a guy who says things like:
"Metalucifer shows we can make the awesome great metal songs by using Eighties ideas only."
or
"Metalucifer is not "BAD NEWS"! And in my opinion, Metallica of today is more comical than us."
Oh and i guess we can discuss about Metalucifer also in this thread.

I think Sabbat was strongest on "Envenom" LP/CD. Their old singles are cool to have also. I remeber I got their 2nd EP in 1993/94 almost free as virtually no-one was interested in this kind of stuff anymore. They sounded abit funny to my ears back then to be honest... well, compared to "Altars of Madness", "Effigy of the Forgotten", "Under a Funeral Moon" and other modern releases (at that time). I think the first who started to praise them big time was the Finnish ISTEN mag in 1994. Cheers, Mikko!

And now they are considered as cult band here even by our country's most mainstream online metal media, imperiumi.deathster wrote:I think the first who started to praise them big time was the Finnish ISTEN mag in 1994. Cheers, Mikko!
Btw. Does anyone have the first ep? I don't have the original and I lost most of my Sabbat mp3s when my portable HD crashed. :/

I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who love this band.
I hope they will visit Finland during their european tour in 2008!

Could i request that you upload that ep? I've been trying to find a rip of it but there's lots of fake ones floating around with the songs from sabbatical holocaust album.! Just like there's a messed up rip of "born by evil blood ep" that has Dementia songs.sabbat666 wrote:one of my favorites of course!

One of my favourite bands! They can never do no wrong for me. Spewing that i missed their show in Singapore and Thailand last July, if i was still in SE Asia i wouldve got the chance to see them. DARKNESS AND EVILLLL !
i think they are much more than just a Venom rip off!wicked keeper wrote:Good ol' Sabbat - the AC/DC of Venom rip-off bands.
