Here's a tricky one for the early US Metal-fanatics:

A few months ago a 7" from a US (possibly NY) Metal band appeared on ebay. It was released in 1979/1980, some sound clips were included in the auction, sounding EXTREMELY tasty and ahead-of-their-time, VERY Metal for it's time 'n all. Sleeve = black background, b/w lineup pic, logo in red if I remeber correctly. In any case it was b/w/red and had a picture of the band on the cover. The auction ended a few decidollars above my budged but I'd love to hear those songs again in any shape or form. Sound familiar? John? Rob? Hilfe! :(

That should be Squadran from New York, I think. They released one single 1980 with the name Fly Away (with b-side The Wall), and sure, they sound very heavy for their time. Great music in all, a lot of high-pitched vocals and some good instrumental parts... well, it must be Squadran you're searching for because I remember it being on eBay too a while ago. I think Dirty Rocker showed me... Check the cover art photo down here.
What did it end for on eBay? Vinyltap has it for 50GBP.

DaN, if Squadran is the single then of course I have it. I love it and can easily upload. I once tracked the vocalist, he is in NJ if I remember correctly, he said they had unreleased material(of course) but he had absolutely zero interest in seeing this single or any of his other music properly released, my memory is he was an ass about it, but this was about 10 years ago...

Yes, SQUADRON of course! Thanx guys. And yes, I'd love to see an upload of it, Rob. More ravin' about the music there and then.

They've just been added now:

Their 7" is remarkable stuff. The way the guitarist channels Volume 4 Iommi is unreal. Thank you for this, DP!

Does anybody know a place that stocks the new Hydra vein CD reissue? I promised a friend I would get it for him, but I only found it at plastichead and they only accept credit card, which I don't have.

I have a theory:

The "Patrice 'T-Bass' Jones" who's doing the vocals on the debut albums by KALASCHNIKOV and FUCKER (both Metal Enterprises) is in fact Katon W. DePena of HIRAX-fame! Identical vocals, and if you check the pix at Metal Archives they look pretty similar too. Opinions?

Thats really interesting, actually. I read about the band picture on the first FUCKER album, does anyone have that? Id like to see it if possible.

Does anyone know where the hell Simon Sobkowiak (if that is his real name) is? Looks like he'd be the one to ask...

Judging by the KALASCHNIKOV picture I'd say he doesn't look like Katon at all. But I'll check out their albums, looks like a great band.

The band pic on the back of FUCKER s/t is just a b/w negative image of 2 guys posing at a graveyard. None of them are T-Bass/Depena, but probably the other 2 guys, Barry Murray (THUNDERSTORM) and Gonzo (BÖHSE ONKELZ).

..a.k.a. Simon Simonson (EXPECT NO MERCY, SIMON) but I don't have his current address, no.
