Should we differentiate in other genres as well, what about satanic blues?

No, ACDC comes first. Angus Young is clearly using satanic imagery on "Highway to Hell" front-cover.
Wrong again, mother fucker - Modest Mussorgsky is obviously the first, what other song about Satan was written a full century before Black Sabbath? Check mate.

Regardless of whether they are black metal or not, the first two albums definitely have a very dark sound. Maybe you should listen to them again.

I think Venom is the creator of Black Metal, which was taken to a futher step by Bathory and Hellhammer, even Sodom and Destruction, Slayer, Possessed, Iron Angel, Running Wild, Bulldozer, while bands like Death SS, Mercyful fate, Hell, Demon,Cloven Hpoof, Pagan Altar, Witchfynde, Witchfinder General, Black Hole, were the creators of satanic/occult metal. Small yet immportant difference between both, and to make it short: Black meytal was satanics Metal played faster, louder and more aggressive

In an early Australian interview they admitted ACDC stands for Aggressive Cult / Devil Conjurers.

I thought this topic would be about early heavy metal bands with a dark, brooding atmosphere and demonic vibes. I guess it turned into another 'what is actual Black Metal - no not that band' threads.

Carrion (Ger) had the thrash & corpsepaint on their LP from 1986.
To me, BM doesn't really exist. Try & define it & you'll come out with distorted rock with lyrical references to Satan & this covers a HUUUUGE spectrum & goes way back.

BM does exist, it's what came out of Norway. This debate is endless, but the 2nd wave at least is a unified musical movement, while what some want to call real bm isn't unified in any way but lyrical content, and it's not even consistent at that. Musically you'd have to leave out so many bands, and what you're left with would be the narrowest genre on the planet, so how does that make any sense??? 10 bands played real BM and the rest are 'something else'?

Just because someone hates 2nd wave BM doesn't mean they are right when they say it's nonsense.

I have to agree with daniel. I mostly like those bands who are considered from the 1st wave of Black Metal because I don't really like Black Metal (that's my reply when somebody asks me about it). I do consider Sarcófago to be Black Metal though and I love I.N.R.I.
