Oops. I didn't read the thread title properly! The best album for me is unquestionably, by a mammoth-paw span, by the length of the pangean cross-continental mountain range: 'Stained Class'

Marseille - Red, White And Slightly Blue
Heavy rock 'n' roll but much closer to heavy metal than early Motörhead. Though not as raw as them, especially concerning the vocals, but I love 'em.

I also love Granmax's Kiss Heaven Goodbye and a lot of other stuff mentioned earlier.

And not metal but still awesome: Jeff Wayne's Musical Version of The War Of The Worlds

I'll second that GRANMAX - Kiss Heaven Goodbye is a great Hard Rock album. Will have to give MARSEILLE a 2nd chance though. Didn't get into them at all first time I heard them years ago...

for real?? :shock: you mean that weird guy who builds art out of crap and garbage and you only see what it is supposed to be if you look far away from above

I don't know very well the 70s hard rock era but I think the greatest 1978 album is Stained Class

...only one metal album there but it's slim pickins'!
