SEPULCRO (PT) - "Flesh Meets Steel" [cassette, 5€]

Post by The Forge »

Release [F001C] SEPULCRO - "Flesh Meets Steel" in cassette format.

OUT NOW, ready to ship! Please read all info and listen to sound clips and see the photographs below...

SEPULCRO are one of the first Portuguese bands, if not the first, to play uncompromising NWOBHM / Heavy Metal! They started their career in 1981 still young teenagers, having rapidly written countless new songs and debuting live with savage live performances. The first demo recording was finally done in 1985, baring substantial money/equipment limitations. This demo features five of the best songs recorded in Portugal during the 80's. In 1986 another recording is done, now with more studio experience and maturity, resulting in a demo with four very diverse songs, some simple and to the point and others more moody and dynamic.

For those wondering, the lead singer Miguel Pinto is the older brother of ALKATEYA's João Pinto. His vocal style has perfect english and a diverse approach with lots of melodies, as opposed to João Pinto strong mid-range and epic vocal delivery. The lead guitar player, Beto, later went on to play in ALKATEYA with also very good results.

If you want to check out ALKATEYA killer Heavy/Epic music, please refer to this compilation CD that features all of their '80s demo recordings:

This is the best sounding Portugese band I've heard yet, and I've heard the big names, none of them too great.

Hello!

OK, if you want to do the reservation, please send email like explained in first post. Vinyl will be something for like November I reckon.

I did the cassette because this format is the one I grew up with, vinyl was either to expensive or very hard to find were I lived in Portugal back in the days. I think the price is low enough for people to buy without regreting it, I mean, 5€ in some places is the price of a beer or a coffee this days.

Yes, big names from Portugal are all from solid to mediocre, but there isn't a lot of obscure stuff, SEPULCRO are one of the few rare examples of killer music and not well-known in general.

The sound here is from the original reel-to-reel master tapes, especially the 1st demo was in bad shape, but I managed to retrive a good sound from it. The sound is the raw deal, I did not tamper with anything relevant.

Finally getting the stuff back from the printing press, next Tuesday (9th of March) I am shipping all pre-orders.

Sorry for the one week delay, it was due to a communication problem with emails...but nothing serious, Jcards came out great.

This is AMAZING, and reflects a lot of what my band Borrowed Time is attempted to do... along with the Brazilian Revenge and the Spanish Thor.

Hello Sammy!

Where can I hear your band?

I am very pleased that you liked it and that you named Thor from Spain, very good LPs.

By the way, more than 2/3 of the pressing are gone, so now is really a good chance to grab one if you want it :)

Almost forgot, the MIDNIGHT PRIEST demo tape add is now sold out.

And finally, for USA residents, Shadow Kingdom is stocking this, see their store.

Cheers,
Francisco Serrano

Top quality release, highly recommended. Great to hear a Portuguese band from that time singing in English. Really catchy songs as well.

Also nice to see demos re-released on tape, rather than adding to the endless stream of faceless vinyl/CD demo re-presses.

I think that re-release on tape format was a wise choice, it adds a special atmosphere and feeling to the original sound.

Hail!

Very good to hear these comments, I will pass them on to the band.

I am glad you liked this in tape format, I had a blast putting the tape together and releasing it in this format. Tape brings great memories! Fits the recording like a glove.

Cheers and all the best,
Francisco
