Wicked Angel (CAN) - The Remastered Collection MMIX

Here we have the - compared to the Wicked Angel from the US (Heads will roll) - better (IMO) Canadian Wicked Angel around Jeff Oppen, which were active between the end of the 80s and early 90s. Back then I got their "Caught In A Vice" demo (which meanwhile made it into the Metal Archives) which I liked a lot. When I got a newsletter including this "Remastered Collection MMIX" cd, I got curious and ordered it. Included are all the demos they ever made in good quality (remastered). You get melodic Metal (with Power) and without any "happy" influences. Their music is of great quality, as good as this band could have been much more than just a short note in some archives.

Throw it in your player immediately, i'm pretty sure you'll like what you hear. Almost all songs are great, the sound is raw and the guitars are pounding, quite a positive surprise.

Had more or less decided to pass on this, but after all the positive response here and on other forums, I ordered it from a Norwegian distro earlier today.

Actually this CD is not a complete discography

There's the full "Caught in a vice" Demo/Unreleased Lp and songs taken from various other demos.

It miss the following demos:

-Heavy metal ehibition
-Tortured by power (full edition with 7 tracks)
-Metal machine Demo 1986 (it's circulating in mp3 version, anyway)
-Born to rock Demo 1988
-Sands of time Demo recorded in the early 90's
-plus various other demo recordings made here and there

It's almost impossible to fix a complete discography as even their website lacks of complete informations

I heard it this weekend, some tracks were good, some average and some totally uninteresting, but even the good ones didn't impress me that much. Don't know how to describe their style, but it's certainly not the kind of killer aggressive and mean US metal I was expecting.

Really, that surprises me a bit. "The Force Of Metal", "Caught In A Vice", "Dusk to Dawn" or "Screaming In The Night" are perfect examples of convincing US power metal. Imo of corse...

I remember when I had first heard their 'Torture by power' demo I thought it was pretty solid with some good tunes like 'Welcome to my sacrifice'. This CD as a whole is not solid, I get the feeling that I'm hearing two different bands at some points. Some tracks had something annoying, maybe something commercial, although I'm not sure if that's the proper word to use... Like I've said, there are some nice tracks, but it's not the stuff I will be hearing over and over again.

I know. Many Canadian bands had a style very similar to classic US metal.

What is "classic US metal"?

Every sub-genre of Metal was played in the US.

I hate the term "US Metal".

Warped sense of reality?

I mean theres an obvious different between US and Euro Power Metal for example, but add the "classic metal" part in there and I get confused.
