Two songs from the band Krizis, from their 1988 album "Ustalyj Rok". The second track is a melodic Metal anthem in the best Soviet tradition!

Listening to KANTOR now. This has been one of my fave Russian extreme bands for a while now. This sounds like a twisted mix of EARLY Korrozia and early Front. They have a very weird way. Using slow riffing, Orthodox chants, riffs from Bizet's "Carmen" and very sinister lyrics, this is some of the best stuff I have listened to from Russia.
A shame so few seem to care about this kind of bands nowadays. This is really different stuff.
By the way, a the band METASTAZA, with links to KANTOR, were also blilliant.

Bump for great melodic Metal.Destrozer wrote:Two songs from the band Krizis, from their 1988 album "Ustalyj Rok". The second track is a melodic Metal anthem in the best Soviet tradition!

The place to start is metalrus.ru and their mp3 archive.

...and that's just scratching the surface. There's a whole lot more of Metal Godliness out there that's not available from Metalrus. Check the thread in the Poisonoise subforum...

I have hundreds and hundreds of russian metal albums in my collection
for sure 99% are really great...I have several tapes of them, 11 or 12 I think and the best one is the Tape 1984 with 11 tracks.
Other bands that really worth:
-Oblachnij Kraj: the whole discography for sure
-Novij Zabet: Alliluya (I found the original CD at my local Music Convention...!)
-Audronasa from Lithuania...the demo/unreleased stuff posted some days ago is really good
-Ayas from Armenia....really cool dark metal
-Avgust...I have 7 or 8 unreleased tapes recorded in the 80's...variable stuff but pretty decent
-Korrozia Metalla: the original recordings on tape of their first 3 albums are really killer... the metal archives says "grind-metal"....more punkish than grind but really corrosive!
-Tyazhelyii Den: well good stuff, check for their LP on CD
-Most: Na Start. A very unknown band, one of the very first hard rock/metal bands in the country. Their only MLP has been recentely re-released on CD: this is really killer stuff, mixing 70'hs Hard rock with AOR and heavier stuff. Along with Oblachnij Kraj my favourite stuff ever!!!
-Kruiz: well Kruiz, Kruiz I and II are absolute killer releases..fast as hell, two steps above the average quality of russian bands at the time. Avoid their early albums, with the old lineup: it's absolute poppish crap.
-Shah: if you're into Anthrax and similar...good stuff. There's a cheap bootleg edition of their 1st Lp if you don't mind too much
-Omas Kojas (from Estonia): really good, good "dark" metal. I got a self made CD with Demo, rehearsal and live tracks....very nice and classy
-Livi (from Latvia): their 'Kurzemei - Saules cels' Lp is one of my favourites. Classy hardo rock/metal, very very elegant with some harder moments. Avoid their first Lp "Iedomu Pilseta" (despite a beautiful cover artwork!) as it's more pop/soft
Then other bands such as Master, legion, Galaktika (I ave tons of unreleased tapes/albums of each one)....the russian metal/rock is an incredibily huge and wonderful planet to discover....its not rare to meet bands with even 7-8 unreleased albums recorded in a short few time, completely different take versions for the same album (Korrozia Metalla docet) or bands that change their style from harsh thrash to pop rock (!) or from thrash to fascist punk (D.I.V.)...unfortunately the metal-archives doesn't feature even a 20% of all of this material, so it's pretty hard to find informations, sources, biographies unless you aren't forced to learn russian language like I did...
