BREAKER-'In Days of Heavy Metal' Lyrics

Post by daniel »

Help me fill in the blanks :)

In Days of Heavy Metal

In years gone by when men would be men
The damsels wait as they lie in distress
Away they ride got the ?
To the rescue of the young maidens yeah

He rides! In from the night
He rides! It’s alright
He rides! For the sake of the maiden’s hand we know he’d gladly die

He dies! To help her out.
He dies! Without a doubt
He dies! For the sake of the maiden’s hand we know that he would gladly die

Now we rode out on an Eastern wind, and our story it has to begin
He lives for a pride that he knows he deserves, his heritage is what he gladly preserves

A noble man, a hero indeed
True to self, a man of no greed
In his ? shining steel
A royal knight, a royal ?
A maidens' man, the way he sat tall
A gentle man, never did he fall
Served his King so faithfully indeed
And riding high on his mighty steed

Knighthood, he lives for it
Knighthood, he dies for it

And so away rode the man on the horse’s back
--------------------------------------------------

Will get onto the others later

I think it is actually "He rides" all three times.
daniel wrote:And so ? of the man on the horse’s back
This line has always puzzled me. I was thinking "So we'll wait for the man on the horse's back" (though I like to jokingly sing "the man with the horse's head".

I am willing to help, but need to listen to it again, it's been a long time since I last heard it.

The missing words are just as impossible as the 'Eat Metal' lyrics, you can hear various sounds quite clearly but it seems impossible to form words from them, damn.

"A ladies man, the way he sat tall"

This line sounds a bit off, but I'm still not entirely sure what it's meant to be:

"In his ? shining steel"

The first bit is certainly "In his place" the second bit might be along the lines of "shrouded with steel".

Yes I entertained the idea of 'ladies man', and also NATIVE man haha, but neither seem very logical do they. Ladies is the most likely, but very weird in a way, though, it seems 80's metal is becoming known for lyrical gibberish the more us fans try to uncover haha. ... Darknes falling, death is calling...

Yeah it's ladies for sure, I guess they're just trying to illustrate what a dashing young knight he was!

You inspired me to quickly knock out what I thought to be Living Free:

"Remember when the years gone by
the nights were young and we were high
one and only and it used to be fun
remember when you were the only one

good lookin'
you're shakin'
you stuff around
but you've gone too far
all your prancing with them pretty little boys
you' got a mate no matter where you are

living free
living free.... yeah
living free
living free.... yeah

find it hard to express myself
the way I feel all about ourselves
you think it over but I doubt if you will
you let go, it's attached to it still (?)

the time ....
the bad spells
.............
..........

I know you're looking, but don't look here
Easy baby take it as you should

living free
living free.... yeah
living free
living free....

OoooooooooH

Easy woman, you don't really care
not tonight, but you don't fight fair
Easy woman, it could never be
look what you're did, what you're doing to me

good lookin'
you're shakin'
you stuff around
but you've gone too far
all your prancing with them pretty little boys
you' got a mate no matter where you are

living free
living free.... yeah
living free
living free.... yeah
living free
living free.... yeah
living free
living free.... yeah"

Great man :) Too bad I can't play my LP out here in the country, maybe I should try download the MP3s(I only took the 'In Days of...' MP3 with me), but it's so slow haha. YES, let's get all the tracks transcribed! I'm going to go for Commander next. All these masterpieces need public exposure :) Even if they aren't always quite the linguistic treasure-trove ;)

Thank you! That makes perfect sense!
daniel wrote:True to self, a man of no greed
I think it might be "creed" not "greed". As in, he's true to his own beliefs, not those of a given religion, etc.
daniel wrote:A royal knight, a royal ?
OK, I was just listening to this line trying to figure it ouit and I swear I heard "A royal knight like Ronnie James Dio". Really, though, the last word is probably "deal", but I still can't figure out what comes before it.

A man of no creed, yes I can go with that! Good call!

In his place? ...

In his ? shining steel
Maybe 'In his place he's shining his steel'
A royal knight, a royal ?
I hear something like 'a royal for deal'
A ? man, the way he sat tall
That's 'ladies' man for sure

EDIT: I'm listening to it again, maybe it could be 'a maiden's man'

The Hot Metal CD boot has all lyrics if I remember correctly. I'll scan and post them within the next week.

That'd be great! Where did the lyrics come from though, my vinyl had no insert, should it have had?

'In his place he's shining his steel'

So he's sitting by the fire polishing his shiny shiny blad like Gollum is he haha.

'Maiden's mad' sounds the best, updating that.
