I posted these in the Miskatonic forum and they sank with little mention in a mega thread of US Metal demos. I'd be curious if anyone here has any feedback for them:
Well here’s a band that may not be typical Miskatonic material, but I think deserved a lot better than to sink without a trace. Warbride were definitely more influenced by and related to 70's hard rock than 80's metal. Think Rainbow, UFO and Scorpions but with a definite feminine edge. Best quality by far was the guitar work of Lori Linstruth (best female guitar player I’ve heard to this day!). Partially notable for Sandy Sledge (ex Rude Girl and Malibu Barbi) as the original sticks woman. First demo is a true home demo, very rough sound quality (4-track in the living room) but “Slaves to the Sword” despite being very Rainbow worship is just a great song. The 90' demo is a lot lighter and more commercial, but somehow more forgivable given the all female line up, still great guitar work. The last one track demo had serious line up changes, but headed back in a heavier direction. The full story and pictures is available in an interview with Lori at metalmaidens.com. Lori also has a more recent instrumental guitar demo available through her site lorilinstruth.com and Lori and the singer from an unrecorded line up Suzi are resurrecting Warbride (warbride.net) in Lori’s off time from Stream of Passion (not Miskatonic material for sure!).
oops! track list:
1) Sail On (homedemo 88')
2)Slaves to the Sword (home demo 88')
3) Nevermore (demo 89')
4) The Tower (demo 89')
5) Without You (Follow Your Star) (demo 89')
6) Chains (demo 89')
7) Rulers of the Night (demo 90')

And here’s something very different from the pre-ceading two. Von Skeletor was an 88-89 studio project of Nick Menza (yes the Megadeth one) on drums and vocals and John Goodwin on guitar and bass. It’s a mixed bag of thrash metal (for the largest part) and straight up metal with hints of punk and 70's hard rock from time to time. Tongue is planted firmly in cheek a lot and when they hit the vocal effects in particular the cheese meter peaks out in the stink zone. Other tracks though are highly loveable and totally metal. “The Bludgeonist” is in my opinion just an awesome headbanger, not to mention a great song title. “The Quickening” a quality straight up number and a lot of the other tracks have their moments. I’d say the drug fueled insanity of Megadeth’s SFSGSW tour (which Nick and John were techs on, they’d played in a number of bands before) and John’s room mate at the time Steven Adler’s descent into drug hell definitely got noticed if you listen to the lyrics...
1) Pray For Life
2) Twilight Zone/The Bludgeonist
3) Get A Life
4) Less Than Zero
5) Yeah Right
6) Hocus Pocus
7) The Quickening
