Rare NWOBHM 6-Pack

Post by AxeCrazy »

Here's a mixed bag of 6 different rare NWOBHM singles that are listed in Malc's book. All ripped at 192kbps

1) Anthem - England EP
2) Atlantis Rising - Tightrope single
3) Baseline - Suspended Animation single (somewhat punk sounding)
4) SYZ - Rock N Roll Children single (ex Hell, Paralex)
5) Tok-io Rose - Bad Girls single
6) Valhalla - Lightning In The Sky single

Enjoy!

Many thanks for this upload. I had heard Valhalla and Baseline before and i believe they're the best among those 6. Unfortunately, most of the bands play that type of NWOBHM i'm not very fond of. Atlantis Rising was a big dissapointment, i don't think they deserve to be included in the wave, charming 70's rock/prog rock and nothing more. Valhalla are the most metallic, a-side is very good, not outstanding though. Baseline have a quite catchy yet a bit punky a-side, it's nice, nothing i'd spent large amounts of money to obtain though. The rest were just average early NWOBHM, essential items only for the very die-hard collectors of the genre. Anyway, even though i couldn't find a masterpiece among them, it was cool to finally hear such stuff. It somehow added more power to my knowledge 8)

Zzzzuper upload. Your contribution is very much appreciated, AxeCrazy. Will download and listen next week when I'm at a broadband connection. I've been curious about that ANTHEM 7" for ages...

An open minded nwobhm fan might call the starting 8-minute track England good or maybe something more than that, it's nothing exceptional imo. I find the whole 7'' plain and typical. In another life perhaps...

Listened to 3 of them yesterday...

ANTHEM: Pretty 70's sounding HR. Not bad but not my cup of tea. But now I know..
ATLANTIS RISING: Simply awful on all levels.
VALHALLA: Brilliant! Both songs slay! A bit amateurish but the Metal spirit is over the top. Which year was this recorded?

Lightning in the Sky is 1981. I'm with you about the other opinions. I liked Anthem, but I'm dissapointed.

The beginning of Anthem's England is awesome, but the vocals are extremely british and loud....the rest is quite uninteresting.

Atlantis Rising is very cheesy.

I'll agree with that. England is good, but the rest is plain and sounds forced. I enjoyed Valhalla most (a 2nd one eh, the one with "Coming Home" is also good) and Baseline great track Suspended Animation!

More listening: SYZ... can't get into this one.

Anyone have any further info on the standouts... Baseline and Valhalla? One also assumes there are demos out there.
