CAULDRON.... poser metal of the 2000s?

Post by big mouth »

I recently received cds of CAULDRON "chained" and white wizard or something, both on Earache and while W.W sounds very much like a fade/ generic NWOBHM act, I can't help but think ofd CAULDRON being just a wimpy 2000 version of what crap/ false metal like WASP/ MOTLEY CRUE and the likes were back in the day... but I guess i'm in a very very small minority considering the hype surrounding 'em already.... sorry but the material csounds so lifeless, wimpy and even happy at times.... utter bullshit.

Yeah WASP's far from poser metal. :?

edit. and why isn't a band that's indie or signed to more "trvv" label and play nwobhm-spirited metal called posers then? I don't understand the logic of your argument. Cauldron are posers because they make nwobhm-like metal that's not good enough? Well they surely ain't the first or last ones.

No i don't care they're signed to Earache or whatever label.... it's just that their material is just so wimpy sounding.... just made to please a certain audience...easy listening stuff.

I'm not too familiar with Cauldron, but what I've heard seems kind of lightweight. Besides, any band these days who writes songs with titles like "Chained Up In Chains" and "The Striker Strikes" should NOT be taken seriously at all.

Oh man, again the same shit with WASP... Debut, Headless Children and Crimson Idol are perfect, ballsy metal, if tracks like "Hellion", "Chainsaw Charlie", "Maneater" or "Arena of pleasure" have nothing to do with metal then I really dont know what else does.

On topic now, I've heard Cauldron's EP, I thought it was OK, something was missing though. Balls maybe? I can't remember. I've seen them live too, they seemed to be more aware of their haircut than anything else.

btw the perceived "hype" around the likes of Cauldron and WW is an illusion. There is no hype. These bands barely exist, yet people on messageboards everywhere are using them as examples to get lost in their own webs of nostalgia and imagery.

Earache is not stupid. They know that a huge share of today's promotion is done by word of mouth on internet forums. All they had to do was lay some bait and wait for the digital footsoldiers to unknowingly do the work for them.

Cauldron are a bit of an enigma to me- I still can't work them out. Decent ep, mind numbingly average album, average live (seen them about 6 times now), yet the guitarist and bassist really know their metal and are decent guys. I also didn't really get that people were fawning over them at Muskelrock in Sweden when there were so many INCREDIBLE bands playing.

White Wizzzzzard are truly the epitome of boyband "metal" I doubt any of them even heard an Iron Maiden record long before they got signed. I mean they weren't even on Metal Archives (not that in itself says much) until they were signed to Earache, and plenty of people I know who live in their area have never even heard of them even playing shows.

Yeah that's exactly the description of a band that comes out of nowhere and get signed all of a sudden... reminds me of bands like E.X.E. and stuff back in the day....

Yes it does, that's just stupidity. Even if entertaining to watch.

I don't think Cauldron will be disappearing anywhere since some of the guys have already been doing this same thing from at least 2000 with their previous band Goat Horn, but anyway, I don't like this either, it is insincere sounding 'party music' with crappy cartoonish artwork.

I also like the winged assassins WASP, good stuff. But that band also falls into the category of being so big it doesn't really mean anything at all that someone likes them, millions like Motörhead, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath, WASP, so fucking what. And yeah I love Sabbath and Maiden, and WASP, not so much Motörhead but they're ok, but the point still remains that liking any of those bands doesn't mean shit when it comes to how 'metal' you are IN GENERAL if you understand me.

+1

I'm not a fan of these new bands either, being it Cauldron or something else. I like it while having some drinks in a bar but I can't enjoy it while listening to it with headphones. I can't take these new thrash bands serious either. I bought a Merciless Death LP 2 years ago and regret buying it. I just can't listen to it. It's all a terrible hype these days. Next in line: old Scandinavian death metal.
