And are you really so eager to run to Axe and tell him to delete person x or person y from his superduper mailinglist of truely devoted fans and friends? The point you don't get is that I personally don't like TOM's whole "obscurer than thou" attitude at all, so I sure as hell won't do fuck to make sure their upcoming records won't reach the wrong people. If they don't want their records to be sold for so much money right after the release, maybe they should just start to cut that stupid mystery gimmick and put 'em out like everybody else does. But of course then they'd just be one amongst many and the discussions about their next release would be 3 pages long at best instead of 12...stormspell wrote:Bla-bla-bla, are you really so much afraid to cite a name?

But one way or another, I'm through with the whole TOM thing. I was part of their little elitist club of fans once and though I got an LP for free, it didn't feel that good at all. Guess it's the same as in school. The first time the rich kids let you play with their flashy new toys it doesn't feel to shabby at all, but after a while you get tired of them and rather perfer to play soccer with the normal boys...

Whether Johnny_Cool cites the name of the seller and ''friend'' of ToM or not, that doesn't change a thing about their attitude. That seller is supposed to have received a gift from the band, and as far as i know gifts are not to be sold. If he decided to sell the gift, then he's the one you should blame. Him and the ones who are willing to pay that kind of money.

That's right, and how am I supposed to blame "that" seller since Johnny Cool plays cryptic and refuses to say his name?ION BRITTON wrote:That seller is supposed to have received a gift from the band, and as far as i know gifts are not to be sold. I'm not going to report to Axe or little do I care about what their stance would be about this. I'm not affiliated with TOM, nor I'm their advocate either. It is their own decision how to distribute their own music and they have to handle all consequences themselves. I can't care less.
However, if there was a dealer which has been given free copies and elected to re-sell for crazy profit, then I do challenge his ethics and wish to know his name so I can avoid doing business with him in the future, that's all.
It has nothing to do with TOM, it is about the fact that I personally want to know the name of that dealer. And I honestly believe that if Johnny claims to know such person, he either should step up and say his name, or learn to live with being called a rumormonger.

We slowly but surely start to run in circles here, don't we? If you really wanna find out who sold TOM's releases for lots and lots of money, do some research and I'm sure you'll have your names pretty soon. Cause I surely won't tell any of 'em here. I didn't enter this thread to expose unethical dealers or help you decide which sellers to avoid in the future, I did so to post my personal opinion about TOM's mystery gimmick and tell people about the not-so-rosy sides of it.
Besides, as I said, I personally don't have a problem at all with people selling Axe's "gifts". If he doesn't want such things to happen, he should just sell his records like everybody else does or send 'em out to real friends only, instead of just giving them to random dudes who write him a flattering emails...

From the metalpage forum:

Hello All
Singer needed for an occultic metal band mixing old metal traditions with some modern power metal influences, epic songs and melancholic atmospheres. Singer should be PRO and willing to compose texts/melody lines for a completed album, instruments recorded. Band influences range from Dark Age to Iron Hawk to Lord to Leather Nunn. talesofmedusa@yahoo.ca
Thanks.

HAhaha
influences range from Iceland's metal gods 'Brunhilda Skitvolvasdottir' to France's ultra 1985 obscure act Baguette Gods with some hints of Easter Islands' rock sensations 'Petula and the wheeley bins'
seriously if these guys released the next Hail to England i still wouldnt listen to it.The perfect guy for this band to sign to is Azra making sure their next LP called 'we re so obscure we broke up 3 months before we formed the band' is pressed in 4 coca cola bottle shaped heptagons.(he 'll figure it out)
100 copies..fucking sellouts.

as time goes by I'm finding it an insult to be called a metalhead, it repulses me to be compared to you freaks, collectors & hairsplitters.
I like Tales of Medusa, i like the mystery of it all..

Why can't the fans and "friends" of ToM accept the fact that there are some people out there who don't buy ToM's mystery gimmick shit thing, refuse to be a part of their elitist "obscurer than thou" club and eventually don't care about their music because their lame atittude turns their stomach upside down?humus wrote:How come metalheads have such a hard time accepting what someone else does, or how they handle their music?
If this thread wouldn't have been opened, i wouldn't have said anything about them. But from the moment it did and since it concerns only a bunch of ToM's close "friends" and the whole First Come First Serve policy is just plain bullshit, sorry, man, i personally must say something about that shit. After all, this is a public forum, not a ToM forum that is limited strictly to 100 registrations.

I refuse decibelrebel's subtle challenge to show him my dick,i'm sure his homosexuality would only be further aroused by it.
I'm sure he can look on the internet for a gay boyfriend, there's plenty of those.
make sure you record your sessions and print them on 100 copies only vinyl.then make sure you sell them only to the gay elite of wherever it is you live.Probably next door to the usual belgian or austrian child lovers.
as time goes by you are finding it an insult to be called an heterosexual, it repulses you to be compared to us males.

Cheer up guys, deep down we all love rare vinyl and at the end of the day, "obscure" equals "cool" to us even though it's not pretty to admit it sometimes. Only difference here is the record is rare to begin with, we don't have to patiently wait 20 years for it to become rare and that's how we like it anyway...
On a serious note, I still don't think it's a big deal about the demos and rehearsal tapes, that they are pressed in a very sparse quantity and given away to their friends and contacts. Most bands never share their rehearsal recordings at all and certainly don't press them on pro printed tapes. They should just be handled the way demos and rehearsal recordings have always been handled, traded back and forth between listeners. I have tape dubs of some of their demos and I'm fine with that.
Though, about the albums I think they should press more copies and sell the records, or let a label release it, instead of pressing a very sparse quantity and give them away. But that's just me, and I don't kick up a fuss because the band wants to do different. After all, it's possible to trade dubs of an album too. i would be just as fine listening to their album on a tape dub or a cd-r, just like I'm fine listening to my cd-r copy of the Shock Split MLP.
