one thing that keeps amazing me is the witchhunt potential that is behind the 'point out the poser' mentality of the self proclaimed underground. sure we can all agree that earache sucks, but how to prove the trueness of the new bands playing traditional styles? what if the music is on par with the 80s heroes that are 'true by default'? surely there must be something wrong with the kids, potential emos or whatever, trendhoppers, wearing the wrong shirts etc. what if this traditional metal thing grows. what if the trad heavy metal wave spills in as many new faces as the thrash revival (which is still alive as far as I can tell)? alone in this thread people are already going against each other, underground against underground if you will.. I don't feel that I have so much of my life invested in true metal being and staying the supreme superniche for the initiated, and generally I'm not really hurt if I don't like what the next guy listens to, but it sucks to see stuff like this. Iron Kodex is as respectable a label as they come, still the trueness/poser bickering doesn't stop there. metalheads are too fucking preoccupied with trueness/posers etc. great way to make everyone self-appointed scene gestapo. I mean never mind me, just thinking out loud.
on a lighter note, or darker if you want. I just got to checking out Flames of Hell and it's blowing my mind.

I dont think it is really so different from yesteryear you know. There were bands in the 80s which clearly jumped the heavy metal wagon with loads and some of which are still worshiped by many as "cult" today. At the end of the day it is the music that will merit, in my opinion anyway.

I actually bought Bonded By Blood, Gama Bomb, Evile, Violator etc... & the music of all these 'nu' bands is sub-par, there is no greatness about them at all, even in 'TRUE' sense!
I wish it was.. I wish it were enjoyable ..but it's not really mind-blowing stuff at all!!
As I've mentioned before the only band I can think of that 'do it' for me of the recent thrash revival are Merciless Death ...they are excellent & a mile ahead of these young (poser ) bands!
I definitely agree with you. I can't say I've heard them all, but no new thrash band REALLY caught my attention. merciless death are kinda nice to my ears because they have that filthier death edge to their sound. nothing I need to buy and listen to a lot to though. on the other hand at least 70% of the classic 80s thrash doesn't do much for me either. but apart from what I like, a lot of these new bands sound a lot like the old bands to me, doesn't do much for me, but they're not musically worse than a whole lot of the 80s classics. I mean how do you make a difference there? I say keep accusations of poser/untrue/false steel out of it. if the music is lackluster I don't need to listen to it. just like I don't need to listen to many 80s 'classics' that just don't do much for me. the 80s thrash wave had people (trend)hopping on while it lasted. no fundamental difference to today, though maybe it was easier to sound original back then. also there is the nostalgia bonus so many of the classics just get by default. plus the new bands are young, so it's all too easy to talk down to the 'kids' and forget who the 'kids' were in the 80s. saying 'they could just as well have been emos' is just the same as 'they could just as well have been glam rockers/discofags'. so my point is that the find-the-poser reflex is silly. if a band flakes out once the money stops, if they are put together by some producer, if the whole act is way too calculated or if the band changes styles with the trends all the time, fair enough, call them posers after the fact. just not as a general suspicion, because then it becomes no more than an easy vehicle to talk bad about whoever one dislikes for all kind of reasons. no year-long scene-cred, hair not long enough, likes some wrong bands, does not like the right bands, doesn't follow the scene fashion correctly, is born too late (reference not intended), doesn't have the right friends, isn't in the hardliner cliques, has better luck than the old 'elite', is (more) successful, etc.
yeah, so in the end the music and it's respective listeners persevere, paired through history. sadly panteras music and their listeners also persevered. so sure we're all hypocrites, just sometimes we could probably find more deserving targets to ridicule. like deathcore and wigger slam.

True, and we shoud never forget thgose who jumped into thrash and into power and into death and into black, and..etc. Many of them would be considered poser in the nowadays standars, but many of course did great albums

Well I thiunk that they are not so great. I saw them twice on stage last december and they did not impress me. The album would be good, but nothing more. I actually prefer Strike Master
In the same vein, as you mention Oliver, not much of those new Thrash bands kick asses, to the contrary of what we can see in Heavy Metal: there are centain very good bands which are recording "new classics" as I call them. In few words: bands to remember
