MARTYR: Fear The Universe

Post by The Sentinel »

It seems the dutch masters Martyr are reformed. I'm a big fan of their classic "For the universe", one of the best records from Holland; a progressive metal classic with tons of atmosphere. The dark obscure powers and the somehow thin production make this album an immortal piece of music; I love this production.

Well it seems they re-recorded this classic and made some new songs. I'm not a fan of re-recorded material but sometimes it works excellent, for example Sacred Blade/Othyrworld re-recorded their classic album and it sounds more then great. I can't open myspace for some reason to check some new songs, so my question is: Does someone heard this one? How are the new songs?

Yes. Horrible.

No melody, no atmosphere, bad modern sounds. It doesn't sound like Martyr.

Maybe this link will work for you:

I thought they just remastered FTU. At least, that's what it said on the website when I checked out the new songs.

Sadly i have to agree with Black Axe  .

The new songs are a bit strange, not what you expect from a band like MARTYR.
Where were you in '79 when the dam began to burst

Just checked out the new stuff. No, not my bag at all, but I was expecting something even worse. It sounded more 90's than 00's, which is only the 2nd worst thing imaginable I guess. "I am the most evil one" could have been decent if it weren't for the weak & pointless 'groooovy' riffing.

[I split the interesting discussion on old bands going 'modern' to a new thread/DaN]

*fixed for mr. smartypants*

Don't you mean "old" bands going modern? :)

This is why i love Maiden, they always keep it old school. All these "old" bands who reinvent themselves into modern pieces of shit can fuck off!!!
