ATLANTEAN KODEX

Post by Goatstorm »

Some news from the Atlantean Kodex-camp:

We've finally found a new singer and a drummer!
The singer's name is Markus Becker. He's got tons of experience and his voice will take the band in an even more traditional and epic direction.
The drummer's name is Mario Weiss. He's from the same region we are from, which means we can finally rehearse on a regular basis. Both will already be heard on the CD coming in April, which we are recording right now.

Two new recordings with the new singer:

The quality of the myspace-soundfiles is terrible as usual. The actual mix sounds way better of course.

great band! Reminds me to a mix of Bathory and Manilla Road at slowest, at least that "The Hidden Folk", which is the only track I heard. Hail Vilseck Epic Metal!
Was that track rerecorded? I have it with a different voice in mind...

NIA 003: ATLANTEAN KODEX - The Pnakotic Demos MCD

Image

After a long journey to the north, beyond the last frontiers of civilization, and consulting the dreaded oracle of Hatheg Kla, the keepers of the KODEX have finally announced the release of the long-awaited "Pnakotic Demos" by the obscure Nemedian epic metal commando ATLANTEAN KODEX.

As it was foretold in the mysterious Eltdown Shards, "The Pnakotic Demos" will be released by New Iron Age Records at Summer Solstice on June 22nd 2007.
It is whispered in strange rumours referring to hidden knowledge in the forbidden Book of Dzyan that "The Pnakotic Demos" will come as a factory-pressed CD (no CD-R) with a strange and beautiful 8-sided full coloured booklet and one grotesque sticker.

Here is the tracklist the oracle spoke of in strange metaphors and dreams induced by Stygian Black Lotos:

1. From Shores Forsaken (feat. ROSS THE BOSS) - 10:30
2. Marching Homeward - 7:37
3. The White Ship - 3:11
4. The Hidden Folk - 10:11

Question for the band: The lyrics on some tracks like 'Marching Homeward' or 'White Ship'

"And I followed the wake of the white ship / Casting off modernitys gyves / To the lands where I reigned / By my fathers side again"

seem to symbolise this 'regression' back to prouder ways which I find easy to corelate with how the band strives for epic metal against trends so to speak. Is this the case? If so I am surprised I have not read any reviews that catch this. What, don't people read lyrics anymore?

Absolutely! Thanks for your interest in our lyrics! Basically we're sort of a "romantic" band. Based on myths and legends we're building an alternate reality which is supposed to counterweigh the effects of modernization, secularization and the loss of belief and lack of fantasy in our times. Of course we're aware that what we're striving for is an idealized past, which supposedly never existed, but that's not the point. The point is to hold up the symbol for a different way. You can relate that to music as well as to your whole life. Staying true to traditions and values instead of following the latest fashion. Always aware that you're not on the side of the majority, but part of a circle of a chosen few.

Your observations are very astute, and it takes a very proud man to realize and be
aware that what we're striving for is an idealized past, which supposedly never existed
.

I find that this dichoctomy between fantasy and actuality is really in the core of Heavy Metal. It is the conquering of a death that one has never experienced, it is the conquest of a reality that one doesn't strictly understand. It takes a very specific type of person to write hymns towards such fantasy, and a specific type of listener to be touched by it, and when they are, they are forever.

Thank you for your reply.

Lyricwise you seem to be on a meticulously crafted path. Although the more distant past was said to be brighter than "pnakotic" in title of mini-CD would make us think.
