The GLACIER demo is great. Not quite up there with the MLP, but still lightyears ahead of Gargoyle. Them I could never get into. It's kinda hard to put the finger on why.. the production + vocals are wimpy as hell, but that wouldn't really be a problem if they'd had great, memorable songs to compensate with. In my ears they don't.

As a whole the GARGOYLE LP isn't amazing no, but a track like 'Aryan Diplomacy' is CLASSIC!!!

And THANKS IB!!!

These lists are great and I can't say mine would be that much different from everyone else's. I would have to put both "Crystal Logic" and "The Deluge" but I would also find room for "Mark Of The Beast." Inner Sanctum's "12 A.M" would be a definite for me as well. I saw Oracle's "As Darkness Reigns" on Helm's list and decided to investigate. I listened to quite a few tracks off the album on Youtube and it's pretty awesome..really grabbed my attention right from the start. He's not kidding with that Paganini reference either..there is some great neo-classical/madman guitar work going on there!

I like the songs on the Gargoyle LP. It's not as good as Glacier, but tracks like "Out from the Shadows" and "Final Victory" are crushing. Like Dan said though, production and vocals are whimpy. "Technically" speaking the vocals are probably very competent and accomplished, and I surely don't demand skull crushing aggressive vocals all the time, but for some reason those vocals don't do it for me at all. If they do it for someone else that's cool.

voidgast I'm glad you liked my Oracle suggestion. I didn't say they were similar to Paganini, heh, you must have read that somewhere else. They surely have a lot of neo-classical stuff in there though yeah. Also the singer from Mystic Force has a lot more room to breathe here in my opinion.

Ah right you are. Don't know how I attributed that comparison to you..must have been the late hour. Some reviewer on Metal Archives made that comparison and spelled it "Pagini." Regardless of the mix up it's some top notch metal indeed. Glad to have found out about this album.

Well, I understand your point of view, but, I find the word"whimpy" excessive and no proper for Lachmann's case...it's the same reaction when I've read that John Stewart's and Glen May's vocals are brutal...(NO, Ion, do not answer to this, I just gave a little example, I wouldn't like to mix things up here!) More lyric or melodic are the right words, in my opinion, and, yes, technique and skilful agility are the main characteristics of Tim's voice...especially in Gargoyle...every song he sang is very difficult for someone else to sing it, we can speak for a unique tone, let's take, for example, Burning, or Final Victory, or Look Homeward, and those are a few examples...it took me years of practise till I was able to sing em properly! After all, each song is a great grower, it demands seeeveral listenings, if someone would like to "judge" right, but that's another chapter I guess..moreover, a comparison with Glacier would be unlucky here..it's like comparing an apple with an orange let's say...no point!
Black signs on my monitor, great bitching and fake words, Avenger is here, the craziest "modest" of all modsss...FTOU!!

OK OK, all i want to say is that what makes the real difference in GARGOYLE's album is the one and only Tim Lachman. Without his singing and without the outstanding lyrical vocal lines, this album wouldn't have been the same.

If your singing of these songs is nearly as bad as that clip you posted of you singing Jag Panzer then your still going to need several years of even more practice.

Hahaha...

Hmm, from the top of my head:

Chastain "Ruler of the Wasteland" 1986
Sanctum "Believers" 1991
Crillson "Coming of a New Age" 1993
Queensryche "same" 1983
Lord Ryur 7" 1986
Visitor "same" 1993
Graven Image "People in Hell Want Ice Water" 1984
Apollo Ra "Ra Pariah" 1989

...
I'll have a look at the ones you posted so I'll remember the rest :)

... and now the ones I've remembered after reading the whole thread ... if we say that all those belong to "US metal" ;)

Omen "The Curse" 1986 - haven't heard the rest of their stuff!
Riot "Thundersteel" 1988
Manowar "Battle Hymns" 1982
Metal Church "same" 1984
Agent Steel "Unstoppable Force" 1987
Helstar "A Distant Thunder" 1988
Satan's Host "Metal from Hell" 1986
Liege Lord "Master Control" 1988
POWERLORD "THE AWAKENING!!!" 1986 ... and if that one counts, so does this one:
HOLY TERROR "TERROR AND SUBMISSION" 1987

and also both SANCTUARY albums (both in my all time top 5)
