I think just the words 'fire' & 'ice', otherwise there's a plethora of 'related' terms & it makes it too easy.
Why are a wise man & a wise guy opposites?

When Metal Melts The Ice of course and Cathedral Of Ice (Sindrome) is also a must for the "cooler" compilation.

That 2CD idea would be nice, one for ice and one for fire.

Comp. needs more NWOBHM. I suggest:

Aragorn - Black Ice
Snakebite - Thin Ice
Hell - Plague And Fire

And the rest:

Rex Vector - Breathe Fire
Exumer - Posessed By Fire
Overkill - Feel The Fire
Lester Maddox - Fire Giver
Jagged Edge - Eyes Of Fire

Well, jumping back to the instrumental thread, here's a tip: SCORPIONS 'Coast To Coast'.

Lots of great suggestions already, it's hard to think of anything that hasn't been mentioned (at least for side Ice). Side Fire should definitely include Sexist - Fire and Wind from Metal Massacre III.

Frankly speaking, I don’t like the idea of using songs just because they contain words “Ice” and “Fire”. I mean a compilation must have a theme, not simply choosing words. This will end up a messy compilation… :?

How about putting together a comp of all the greatest Metal anthems?
Examples:
HELLOWEEN (Heavy Metal is the law)
HOLOCAUST (Heavy Metal Mania)
CIRITH UNGOL (100 mph)
KAT (Metal and Hell)
PICTURE (Heavy Metal Ears)
RUNNING WILD (Chains and Leather)
DESTROYER 666 (Satanic Speed Metal)
and the list goes on.

Personally I'd like to see a comp of all the greatest Metal ballads (maybe we can name it "Molten Metal"). :D

A comp with the "greatest Metal ballads"? I don't like the idea :)

Ok it's a bad idea, ha. Maybe I will do the comp and just keep it for myself. Hey I can name it "Greatest Guilty Pleasure"

Venom - Temples of Ice (1991 album)
Bitches Sin - Ice Angels (1980 Demo version)
Anvil - Blood on the Ice (1988 Pound for Pound album)

Velvet Viper - Icebreaker (1991 album)
ADX - Sacrifice in the Ice (1990 Weird Visions album)
Disciples of Power - Ice Demons (1988 demo/1989 Powertrap album)
Demon - Touching the Ice (1985 British Standard Approved album)
Wyvern - Ice Guardian (1994 Demo)
Aragorn - Black Ice (1981 single)
T.N.T. - Break the Ice (1984 Knights of the New Thunder album)
ARC - Ice Cream Theme (1981 War of the Ring single)
Snakebite - Thin Ice (1983 Blow You Away single)

--------------------------------
Bathory - Baptised in fire and ice
Running Wild - Fire & Ice
Cirith Ungol - Frost And Fire
Nocturnal Rites - When Fire Comes to Ice (1999 The Sacred Talisman album)
--------------------------------

FIRE:

Riot - Fire Down Under (1981 album)
Smokin' Roadie - Hell Fire (1984 demo)
Satans Host - Hell Fire (1986 Metal from Hell album)
Hell - Plague And Fire (1986 demo)
Rex Vector - Breathe Fire (1985 single)
Exumer - Possessed By Fire (1986 album)
Overkill - Feel The Fire (1985 album)
Lester Maddox - Fire Giver (1986 Gothic Lore album)
Sexist - Fire and Wind (Metal Massacre III)
Greensleeves - Fire
Ear Danger - King Of The Midnight Fire (Metal Power)
Lords Of The Crimson Alliance - Firedancer
Geddes Axe - Wildfire

More than one song bands:
Cirith Ungol - A Little Fire (1980 Frost and Fire album)
Cirith Ungol - The Fire (1986 One Foot in Hell album)
Bathory - Blood on Ice (1996 album)
Satan - Trial By Fire
Running Wild - Land of Ice (1987 Under Jolly Roger album)

These are all the fire and ice songs mentioned. Though to keep it and cool and a-blazen' it would be a good idea to only keep the songs that not only have the right title, but also the right subject and 'atmosphere'.

I'd add one more from the Ungol:

I AM THE GOD OF HELL FIRE AND I BRING YOU...FIRE!

How come witchkiller hasn't recommended PILEDRIVER - The fire god yet? Great track.
