Yeah that was my reasoning too

Van Halen belongs in the same bin as metal songs that include brass instruments and saxophones :D

Fire and ice comps should be fun, though culling the tracklist down will be tough.

Another transition tune:
Bal Sagoth- starFIRE burning upon the ICE veiled throne of ultima thule

A sci fi comp in the future would also be fun

I'd also say that sticking with more obscure tunes is probably a better idea. Not trying to sound t(r)00 kvlt or elitist, but part of the fun with comp albums is checking out bands you would otherwise never hear. 'Snowblind' and 'Fire Down Under' are great tunes, but we've all heard them a hundred times.

Such as the brilliant 'Don't Waste Your Time' by Motörhead?

Come now, if only for EVH's influence on every guitarist who came after him, you gotta have a little love for classic VH Dan?
They aren't even metal, they belong in the "Land Of Mystery". VH is also overrated as an influence.

A great underrated track in their catalog!

PS. I also hate Van Halen.

There are exceptions to every rule  Great song, though it might have been greater without the saxophone! :P

You obviously didn't grow up with Van Halen, like a couple of us..?

Actually my formative years were during Van Halen's hey-day; the video for 'hot for teacher' was my introduction to puberty :D I've always thought they were overhyped and never thought Eddie was the guitar genius everyone made him out to be. Just my opinion, I've no problem if others dig them

Sorry dude, I have to disagree.

Eddie Van Halen influenced Metal Guitar in so many ways...

Regardless though, that doesn't make the band "Metal", they are a Hard Rock act and therefore should be banned from the compilation.

Maybe there should be a separate thread for VH bashing, it's starting to impede the flow of suggestions for the comp, and i feel kinda guilty for stoking the argument in the first place.
Can we define the paramaters of the criteria for track inclusion please?
Do songs have to include the words "Fire" or "Ice", or can we bend the rules for related terms like "Inferno" or "Frost" etc ?
Only troo cvlt tracks or are a smattering of classicks permitted?
And thank you Rick for flying the flag for brass infused Metal, your steel is true!

Well I think that the majority of songs should be obscure metal but I'd like to see a couple classics thrown in as well. Like ANVIL's blood on the ice.

They've been said before but classics like CULPRIT - Ice In The Back and of course JAG PANZER - When the Metal Melts the Ice HAS to be on it.
