"Tribute" songs

Post by bigfootkit »

I was just watching a clip of Trust doing "Your Final Gig" (Ton Dernier Acte) on Youtube, and as you know, it was a tribute to deceased AC/DC vocalist Bon Scott, an event which was also partially inspired Ozzy's "Suicide Solution". This got me thinking about songs which were specifically written as tributes to those who have fallen by the wayside on the ole Highway To Hell. Musicians & singers only.
Anyone know of any good ones?
Off the top of my head, i think Chateaux's "Son Of Seattle" was about Hendrix, Phil Lynott's "King's Call" was inspired by Elvis and there were several Southern bands who paid tribute to Skynyrd after the plane crash, my favourite being Henry Paul Band's "Grey Ghost", Drive By Truckers "Let There Be Rock" namechecks Scott, Skynyrd and Randy Rhoads but beyond that i'm struggling, and a lot of these are barely on topic.
I'm sure there are loads, but nothin' much is coming to me.
Any suggestions?

EF Band - Remember You (Bengt Fischer) (Written and recorded by John Ridge, who died the following year of the same disease as Bengt)

Barón Rojo - Concierto para ellos pays tribute to Bon Scott, Janis Joplin, Keith Moon and a whole bunch of other fallen rockers.
Pokolgép - Bon Scott Emlékére is, presumably, about Bon Scott. :)

Judas Priest's Hero's End is about (inspired by) Henrix's demise?

Edit: ...and that of Janis Joplin (I just read the lyrics).

I can think of a couple more tributes to Randy Rhoads:

TAIST OF IRON - M.O.R.R.
SHELDER - Randy Rhoads/Star Mythique

MEGADETH - In My Darkest Hour was written by Dave when he found out that Cliff died, but I don't think the lyrics itself is about him.

Well, I don't think he's calling Cliff a "bitch".

Wow! Thanks for all the responses, lots of ones i've not heard/heard of.
I'm actually surprised that there aren't more to be honest.
I thought of a couple more off-topic ones, Psychic TV's "Godstar" about Brian Jones of the Rolling Stones and Rose Tattoo's "Once In A Lifetime" about their deceased bandmate Pete Wells.
I'll maybe put together a cdr of the best ones, and so yet another music hunt begins!

The Ballads Of Jimi Hendrix, INXS, Jim Morrison, Frank Sinatra, Freddie Mercury, Nirvana, The Midget From Kid Rock etc.
