The reason I personally don't sell or print large quantities of my music is because I don't want a large and faceless audience, I want human communication, if at all possible face-to-face as well. I'd rather have 10 real people (as in people I've met and gotten to know personally) appreciate what I do than 1,000 faceless theoretical fans. I can understand therefore why another band would not want to see their music as a product. Not to put anything in ToM's mouth of course, just giving an alternate viewpoint.
Human communication is welcome, but if bands like Judas Priest, Iron Maiden, Black Sabbath etc felt the same way too, i might not have discovered heavy metal yet.
The bands should have in their mind that there might be people that they will never see face to face who will listen to their music and like it maybe more than those they know pesonally and communicate with. For me, the most important thing is the music to be heard, communication and all the other things come next. It doens't mean much to me if you have contacted and met the band in order to receive their material, you might as well be a fuckin' hypocrite who just wants to get that soon-to-be-rare stuff and sell it later or you simply want to show off. I'm not saying that this is the case with ToM and their fans, i'm only saying that it's not 100% safe to say that all "fans" really like and listen to the band's music.

Anyway, i won't continue this conversation and i won't change my mind about ToM. I really don't care about their stuff and i don't want to be a fan of a band that plays exclusively for me and 49 others. I don't want to be a part of that 50 copies thing no matter how good or bad their music might be. I'm not asking you or anyone else to think the way i do, it's just my opinion and i'd like to keep it. If a band needs only 50 fans, i don't need the band at all.

I don't think they expect or are there to achieve anything. They look to me like people who just play music for fun and enjoy giving for free their own releases. Of course I may be totally wrong, who knows...
I don't mind them giving their releases away for free. But I know of the band, but I never even knew this release existed. Now how can somebody become a fan of a band who don't even let their (future) fans know they've a new release out. I also contacted the band about a release, but they never sent it.

I also contacted the band in the past, they never replied. Then they said they would send Tobi of Metal Coven a few copies, they never did.

Nice attitude.

Well leave Judas Priest and Iron Maiden and Black Sabbath their burdens and others to their own I'd say. I don't think any band that picks up instruments to play HM has an obligation to shoot for 'as big an audience as they could have'.
If a band needs only 50 fans, i don't need the band at all.
Alright, I see. If you don't want to continue the conversation I'll leave you be. Just seems strange to me.

I've said it once and I'll say it again, music is to be heard.

Wait, fuck that, I'm going to form a band and rehearse exclusively in some abandoned dungeon and record ONE copy of our demo. Then when it's finally done, destroy it so that ONLY THE TRUEST (members of the band itself) will ever hear the material.

Fuck, that's Kult with a capital "K".

I can understand the frustration, but like I said you can hear all of it if you wanted to... just ask someone. Collecting metal was never an easy task.

They "released" a tape in only 50 copies? Sheesh.
They are totally free to do whatever the hell they want with their music. Since they obviously don't want me to hear it, it would be indecent of me to try to get hold of it.

I think it's good if their releases are limited to 50, or even 5 copies. That makes it one more release that I can't bother at all about. I wish more bands would follow this example and the world would be a more beautiful place. What is it that makes people so eager to get hold of everything or even complain about a band who do whatever they want to? There are millions of other bands out there whose releases you can get instead, if owning such items is so important.

If this would have happened in '83 their LP would be on every wantlist in that another topic.

And yes, I think they should have pressed more of those LP's so more people could enjoy their music. But I don't spend sleepless nights over this, there is too much metal in this world already for one lifetime and this is the way they chose to act.

Has any label runner here offered them a deal?

The band is not interested in communicating with people, they want to remain anonymous, they ignore people's emails, not only mine. So they sit judging who is worthy of their releases, an arrogant attitude I don't see how anyone can defend. Further they even told Tobi of Metal Coven he had to take down a review he'd written of one of their releases, now, give me another example of a more stupid tactic to remain as underground as possible.

At the time it was said people had simply given their address and later received copies of releases though no replies to their messages had ever showed up. I was not comfortable doing this, I'm not going to simply give someone my address and expect to receive something for free, if they decide I'm good enough, if I write a band stating my interest in their music and offer to cover the postage costs I'd appreciate a reply, I'd like to move away from utter randomness. I see the bands actions have inspired awe in a few, but luckily there's equally many who are annoyed at their arrogance.

I don't really support the use of CD-R's if it's unecessary anymore, the earth's resources are taxed quite enough as it is already, there are several people here who want to hear the band, and no compelling argument against why MP3s can't just be uploaded.

Yes, I have heard the band, I have a copy of one of their tapes, it's very good, though lots of riffs verge on rip-offs of older bands.

Yeah if they don't reply to people mailing them then that shoots my argument down and I can't really think of anything that might explain what they're doing besides appearing as underground as possible for the sake of it.

I hope that he told them to "Fuck off" and kept it up for everyone to see.

Do these guys have a background in the Black Metal scene? I kinda associate this behaviour w/ "ze kvlt untergrundt BM-vay" = very silly of course. I hate to admit it but to a certain extent this strategy works, since I'm now sitting here wondering what hell they sound like and if their music lives up to their tr00 antics :?
