Is it just me or does this "comp" seem very Anti-US Metal?

It is. We all really hate US Metal, don't we?

Seriously though, the reason might be that most of that broke in the mid 80s and there was a time cap set in the first post (?) After all, there ARE quite a few US bands mentioned here.
I know I ain't doing much,
doing nothing means a lot to me.

Heh! Now I'm imagining Sad Iron singing "We all hate US metal / It is so shite..."
"His name's Antichrist Vandelay. He's an insulter-expulser."

5 out of 15 tracks (that's 33%) are US Metal perfection. How is that anti-US metal? I think it's pretty reasonable. Also "comp"? What is it, a toothbrush disguised as a compilation?

Erlking, I'd really appreciate it, yes.

current -and probably final - playlist:

1. Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath
2. Judas Priest - Dreamer Deceiver / Deceiver
3. Rainbow - Stargazer
4. Cirith Ungol - I'm Alive
5. Holocaust - Heavy Metal Mania
6. Motorhead - Ace of Spades
7. Heavy Load - Might for Right
8. Manilla Road - Necropolis
9. Pagan Altar - Night Rider
10. Brocas Helm - Metallic Fury
11. Warlord - Black Mass
12. Omen - In the Arena
13. Mercyful Fate - Evil
14. Helloween - Victim of Fate

I switched the Heavy Load track because I needed a bit more speed at that point of the compo to sustain after Ace of Spades. It ends 'side A' so to speak and then Manilla Road do the honors for 'side B'. I also switched Gotham City for Pagan Altar and chose Night Rider because not only it's very beautiful a song, it's also about Persephone and dad digs that sort of thing. On the back of the cd I'll write an emblematic piece of lyric by each band.

I am still reserving a spot somewhere for the Flower Travellin Band. This is getting awfully close to 70 minutes I think, heh.

Thank you all for helping.

There is already Brocas H but personally I really adore The Chemist from the Black Death LP

If your dad likes this compilation you could do a more "occult" one so we can all play this game again.

Yeah if he can stomach 70 minutes of this then I'll do the 'second wave' of self-aware metal. From 1986 to 1996.

This one seems already complete and a longer one would probably be too much, but I'd replace some of the tracks there and put Deep Purple (probably Space Truckin'), Pentagram (Sign Of The Wolf), Angel Witch (Angel Of Death), Satan (Blades Of Steel) and maybe one or two more.

A little bit off-topic, but my question is:

How many of you have dads who would listen seriously to a metal compilation their son would make? Dads who are already heavy metallers are excluded.

Mine is into jazz (dixieland, swing and some not too advanced bebop...).
I remember when I was getting into early Sabbath (mid-eighties) he commented that it sounded like some old church music - something which I kind of thought was nice... "Parallel quints" - only 8 hits when googling. What's the term I'm looking for?

Satori by the Flower Travellin' Band is quite enjoyable for me (vocal melodies! riffs!) but it seems to reference Black Sabbath too much to deserve the title of 'archetypal'. What good would it do to them to go in a compo right next to 'Black Sabbath' by Black Sabbath, other than to denote that 'I know my shit' (which I don't, also. I wasn't aware of Flower Travellin' Band before this thread!'). So I guess I'll have to keep that one for myself :)

My mom would listen to it, my dad no way. He's into tango, classical and some jazz and local folk, but that's it.
