Archetypal Metal: The Mixtape for my Dad!

haha yes, exactly what you read above. My dad is very open-minded and was into progressive rock as a young man but he sorta lost interest in where popular music was going exactly when HM started happening (he became a dad so he had more to worry about than music). So often I write him mix-cds full of Heavy Metal and other musics I enjoy and he listens to them in the car to and from work. It's something of a ritual between us, and he tries hard to understand what I see in the strange music I enjoy and even sometimes likes a few songs too (of course he says he likes it all, but I know the truth! There's no way my dad doesn't skip 'The Eldritch' by Watchtower)!

So I decided to make him a historical mix, that would explain how this thing happened, instead of yet another 'songs I just happen to like' mix. The criteria for this mix are these:

1. It must appear to be self-inspired, not a copy of something else.
2. 1986 date cap.
3. It must be FOR REAL. The lyrics and attitude exuded must convince even a 50 year old man.
4. Emblematic lyrics that explain the genre are a must. Stuff that people today consider trite like freedom and might is right and swords and death? That's what I need.

I will try to make the mix be progressive, I mean I will start at 70's and work my way up to the fabled 1984, and then to 1986. Here's some songs I am going to use:

Black Sabbath - Black Sabbath (of course)
Rainbow - Stargazer
Heavy Load - My Guitar is my Sword
Brocas Helm - Metallic Fury
Manilla Road - Necropolis
Gotham City - Swords & Chains
Warlord - Black Mass
Iron Maiden - Hallowed Be Thy Name
Motorhead - Ace of Spades
Mercyful Fate - Melissa

and so on. When it's all done I will draw a pretty cover of an armored skeleton or something. Where I need your help with: I want you to tell me which HM songs for you are completely emblematic, completely archetypal of what this sort of music stands for, for you. I want to make a selection that doesn't just represent my personal taste, this is a piece of history! It doesn't have to be well-known, but it does have to also be reasonably catchy so my dad doesn't just sit there scratching his beard all along. He's supposed to enjoy it after all.

That's an interesting idea for sure. I guess it helps that your dad is/used to be into rock music. Personally I'd never have a chance in hell to do the same since my parent's interest in rock in nonexistand and weak as far as music goes in general.

The first addition that comes to mind is "Destroyer" by LEGEND (US). Musically groundbreaking, superb vox/playing/production and an incredibly catchy tune. Maybe some prime-era NWOBHM should be added too?

I am not an expert in NWOBHM so that's where you guys and gals come in. the Legend track might be good, yes! Omen, yes, not sure which song off of Battle Cry.

My mom is from the "beatle" generation, but she sometimes likes to listen to what I listen. The metal bands she likes are Black Sabbath, Deep Purple, Motörhead, Flower Travellin' Band, Saint Vitus, King Diamond/Mercyful Fate, Paul Chain, Black Hole, so maybe some of those bands (the ones you didn't mention yet) would be cool for your dad too.
