Eric Wagner leaves TROUBLE, Kory Clarke to be new singer

Post by sagrotan »

just found that on the band's myspace and haven't heard about here so I thought I'd spread the news..
"Amidst many rumors it has been announced earlier today that Kory Clarke of WARRIOR SOUL will be the new frontman, effective immediately.

The news comes as the band returns to their Chicago homes following a successful European Tour.

Trouble founder/guitarist Rick Wartell explains: "It was a mutual agreement, you need to follow your heart in this business and if you are not into it 100% then it is time to move on. We all felt it was the best thing for all parties involved. There are no hard feelings. I'm sure Eric (Wagner) will continue making music and we wish him the best."

He went on to say, "We are very excited to have Kory step in and take over the vocals for Trouble. He's been one of my favorite frontmen in this industry for many years. He will add a new dimension that we can use. It's not like we just picked out some guy to fill in, this is one of rock's most dynamic and creative frontmen in the industry. I know that when Trouble fans get a taste of what Kory does, they will not be disapointed at all. Anyone who has seen Kory with Warrior Soul already knows what to expect, and it's awesome."
hell, really don't know what to think about that.. WARRIOR SOUL were great imo but.. my first impulse was to be reminded of that UGLY KID JOE fella leading LIFE OF AGONY back then.. besides the fact I haven't heard "Simple Mind Condition" yet and don't know if all that still matters anyway..

so, if there are any opinions out there 8) maybe those will help to find mine..

I guess I'll find out tonight, since I'm seeing them in a club in Toronto. I have to admit I am a little worried. I saw them last tour with Wagner on vocals, and the show was incredible. The rumors I've heard suggest that the guitarists wanted to play the doomier older material, but Korey latched on to their more accessible 90's material. I hope they had enough feedback from fans to play more classics. I'll post a review here later this weekend to let you know how it went.

Saw this lineup last month in Chicago. Your worries are justified!

So me and my friend showed out just in time to see the opening act, Minsk, vacate the stage. Trouble played an entire set with 90'2 material. It was listenable, but did not elicit the same response from us that ye olde doom songs would have. Korey was a total douche, making idiotic stage banter and dancing like he's missing a few chromosomes. But the guitar sound was huge, and the Trouble axe-meisters were playing well. Then for the encore they played the stuff we came there for, the doomy crushing songs from the early albums. It was so heavy I could ignore the dude at the mic and enjoy the fine minor key harmonies and pounding riffage. the bottom line is that I do not regret coming down there, but I really miss Wagner at the helm and I think they need to find a better replacement than Korey.

thanks for replies after 6 months of silence 8) and for your review!
I totally forgot about that in the meantime, but your impression somehow matches what I was expecting back then. Warrior Soul are not a bad band at all, but their style is very different vom Trouble's and it's hard to imagine how that combination should fit.
maybe they find out themselves before recording new metal..
