Only heard Mercy I think.

Well, it's right there:
<------------------------
so you know I love it!

Witcburner is an extremely cool record in my opinion. As heavy as Saint Vitus, as primitive as Venom, as evil as Mercyful Fate. Many seem to not be able to look beyond the sloppiness and the general... should I say backwardness, but once you do you are bound to realize that there are some killer songs and som unique ideas inside there. I would call it genius even.

DOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHM!

Maybe you should make a little poll here, Dan...well, my first choice would be Mercy(wonderful), then Allied Forces(brilliant guitar work, dirty vox,"Blood, Sweat And Tears" is a fuckin HYMN!), and last Dresden(a little bit Thrashy for me, but a quite good one)

Allied Forces is quite boring. Haven't heard the second one. Mercy is great!

I'll buck the trend- I found the Mercy album very disappointing. Poor songwriting and limited musical skills, even Marcolin's performance was nothing great (and I love his Candlemass work).
Don't know the others so can't comment.

What is the cover of that Mercy s'pposed to be?

Looks like some creature with a helmet too big for him??
Why are a wise man & a wise guy opposites?

That's what it is.

1. ALLIED FORCES - "The Day After" LP '86

Some nice moments, but none of the songs are interesting throughout.

3. MERCY - "Witchburner" LP '85

A few great and heavy songs on this album, but most of the songs suffer from the afore mentioned flawed songwriting, which keep this album from being a doom classic.

I enjoy the Dresden album. Good speedy stuff with hints of Mötorhead & Beowulf, & not typical tough-guy crossover at all. Surprising how well the cover of "The Sound of Silence" works. Worth it!

I don't know the other two but Mercy I enjoy occasionally - if I'm in the mood it's a great album, if not I find it irritating! I don't think it's sloppy or anything, I just sometimes find the songs don't really progress and go anywhere. Then again, I've found myself enthralled by that exact quality and get quite a heavy meditative vibe, somewhat trance-inducing.

1. ALLIED FORCES: Nice Dutch album with some great moments but not as great as for instance Leader. Still need one though

2. DRESDEN: A friend of mine has this album; has played it once for me; quite good if I remember well.

3. MERCY: A very great record. Has a very special "feel" to me. I like Messiah on this one way more then on Candlemass.

1. ALLIED FORCES - "The Day After" LP '86

Not bad, but it's too generic and doesn't really hold my interest very well.

2. DRESDEN - "Too Many Skeletons" LP '86

Haven't heard it.

3. MERCY - "Witchburner" LP '85

This is a masterpiece, even if the production is thin and the playing is sloppy. Probably in my top ten of Swedish 80s metal (though I haven't compiled the actual list yet, so can't be 100% certain)

Edit: And I agree that Leader were a lot better than Allied Forces.
I know I ain't doing much,
doing nothing means a lot to me.
