Blue Oyster Cult inspired US Metal

Post by Noisenik »

I needed 340 seconds that dawned on me after Rush were mentioned in another thread: Pls., pls., recommend anything that sounds approx like that above. Even if it leans on *gasp* AOR. Mega thanks in advance.

Tough task. I'm not even sure i can always spot the BOC elements in heavy metal...

The first Cirith Ungol album was inspired by pretty much all 70's heavy rock bands. :lol:

Demon (NWOBHM) too.

Seasons of the Wolf I believe were quite influenced by BÖC and they are Heavy Metal.

Really? Tnx, I think I heard of them before.

@ION
Perhaps vocals similar to Eric Bloom ones, guitar lines a la Buck "Dharma". :D Nah, not pretty helpful, I know.

I leave no quality guarantee though. I have their first three albums and find them a bit boring - maybe I should have listended to them more. Out of memory I would maybe compare them to Savatage/Metal Church/Armored Saint but with a new age twist :shock: - no Bloom-like vocals. The BÖC connection was from statements I read in interviews with the band.

I'm still a BÖC novis and it's still a bit difficult for me to spot the obvious influences, but I guess plenty of old NWOBHM bands owes them a lot. TRIARCHY first comes to mind. Maybe LEGEND(Jersey), KRAKEN and MARQUIS DE SADE as well. A hefty BÖC-influence = quality!

I can detect a hint of BÖC in Kevin Nugent's work, altho' BÖC weren't nearly as flash as Legend or Mercenary.

I don't quite remember clear BOC influences on NWOBHM records, but I know they are there.

Along with Black Sabbath, they were on of the first bands that broght darkness to early metal. Although they left this field quite early.

Not US metal, but the Sapphire track "Jealousy" is rather close to the ol' "Reaper" standard...
