Both bands are from Argentina. Honestly, I haven't payed much attention to this one, so I don't really know if it's THAT good, but it was requested, so here it is

Yeah, I've got this one recently, and didn't capture my attention. I've just listened to it a couple of times.
I recommend 1000 more times the Delirium Tremens stuff I posted.

That's funny 'cause I actually don't. Maybe is easier to connect with the argentinean bands from outside, 'cause you don't know how poser they were or became. I'm not actually talking about this two bands, but that's the case with Retrosatan. Every cult black metal guy from another country loves that band, but I HATE IT!!!! These guys we're just ripoffs (not money ripoffs, but music ripoffs) and posers, and I really can0t understand why they like it so much. Maybe is the "exotic" factor, I don't know. Even it had a smaller and more ephimerous scene, I think Uruguayan bands were much better (maybe 'cause they got records from Brazil).

Well it helps I don't know spanish. I heard some stories that in Argentina in the old days everyone was super critical about the lyrics(maybe still true), that if they were not great, not one would listen to your band. Or that most metalheads in Buenos Aires don't like El Dragon because their lyrics are not serious but they are popular in the outlying regions.

Let me tell you a little story. When I visited Buenos Aires 3 years ago I found out that it seemed every kid and old timer seems to be a Hermetica maniac! I saw the tshirts everywhere, lots of young kids wearing them, etc. I don't know why because though I do really like the albums they are not the best from there. I guess many small demo size bands there emulate Hermetica and that there are even tribute bands! I heard that people even died at some of the Hermetica concerts! BUT from what I understand their lyrics are all about politics and social concerns and remain legends as a result. Is this all true?

Argentinean metal is all about V8 and Hermética. Both of them had political lyrics, from the point of view of the most popular party of this country (peronism) so that's why is so popular. Here most rock bands (and as an extention metal bands, since there's not a real metal scene around here, or it's just a very small one) have social and politics as the main thing of the lyrics. The funny thing is that here there never was a fucking revolution or anything like that. People just whines and complains (I sometimes do too) but does nothing about it. That's the argentinean personality. You know everything is fucked up, but you don't do nothing to change it, that's why despise haveng a huge climatic variation that allows us to have more resources than most countries in the world, we're just a crappy third world country. Even the first sound movie was done here, but it got lost, and the movie industry (that looked like was gonna be pretty big in the first years of the XX century) died almost completely. This country is all about negligence.
Back to the music, also everybody here lives everything as if its a football match (soccer for the yankees), with that illogic passion that drives to gangfights and murder. There were two bands after Hermética's split up, Almafuerte and Malón, and there was kind of a war between the mebers of each band that later translated to the orients.
Most people are just fuckin' idiots who spend more time (and money) drinking, doing drugs, and looking for a fight that buying and listening to music.

Very interesting read, Cochino. Learning about the complicated social backgrounds of the Metal scenes in "far away" countries is one of the greatest privileges of having a forum like this. Hope other members follow up on your example. (Really. I know there are people here who would have very interesting stories to tell.)

About RETROSATAN I kinda agree w/ you. They had a great monicker & image & yada yada but that reissue LP left me shrugging my shoulders. Pick any Mausoleum release at random and you're likely to come up with something way more interesting musically. Try telling that to the "the-obscurer-the-better"-BM-kids today..

I totally agree with that. There's much more "dark" atmosphere in V8 stuff (I recently got a cdr of their demo and it rules!) than in Retrosatan, and V8 are christian. Is just people who want to live and think through the bands they like. I don't give a shit about that, I just care about the reaction that the music causes in me, the images that come to my mind when I listen to it, etc. Anybody can write dark and satanic lyrics, is very easy. Now express real darkness through music is harder, and not too many bands accomplish it. And I think that the impression that music causes is stronger than words, 'cause music speaks in your own words, you adapt it to your personality. It's more multidimensional.
For example, there's this satanic-nazi friend of mine (he was a friend before becoming such an asshole, and I don't know for how much he will still be my friend) who likes Coven (the hippie-satanic band) just for the satanic stuff. And he calls me a poser 'cause I like Flower Travellin' Band. So, for this guy, liking a hippie band is more "true" than liking a metal one.
And I have to deal with guys like this every day, in every concert I go to (there aren't many and each time they're less). I really have to move.

Perfect example of what I was talking about. Sure, COVEN are great if you're a die-hard JEFFERSON AIRPLANE fan, but FTB whipped them bloody silly.
