Compilation only bands that should have done more

Post by Keir »

One reason I love obscure metal compilations are the bands who seemingly couldn't get it together enough to even release a single or a demotape. Often they suck terribly, but occasionally you find a gem. Some of these bands were mentioned in DaN's Metal Massacre thread (LOST HORIZON, PATHFINDER, SEXIST, etc.) Here are a few more of my favorites:

ALIEN - Released 2 tracks on Neat compilations (One Take No Dubs and 60 Minutes Plus). I've only heard "Could Have Done Better" from OTND, but it's top-notch NWOBHM and easily the best track of the 4 (and all are good). Their other track is supposed to be just as good.

DARK AVENGER – Released 2 tracks on the infamous Death Metal sampler. Awesome German power metal that easily competes with the tracks from RUNNING WILD and HELLOWEEN.

SARACEN - Not the band that released Heroes, Saints and Fools, this one only released 4 tracks on the Roksnax compilation.

Also SAMURAI from the same LP - track "Die Or Deliver" is a killer!

ZTORM - Totally accidental discovery I just made when I bought The Quest Tapes for the 2 exclusive HIGH TREASON tracks. ZTORM kicks HIGH TREASON's ass with their cross of proggy NWOBHM that falls somewhere between DAWNWATCHER and MAGNUM.

What are some of your favorites?

I would kill for an unreleased album by XINR who had one track on the Pacific Metal Project comp. GODLY obscure Metal! Like a mix of CIRITH UNGOL and DEATH SS! One of the guys went to CRUELLA but their album disappointed me :(

I second your opionon on the other SARACEN - great band!

ZTORM would make an interresting upload for sure...

Absolutely, but MORRIS fromt he same compilation are THE ultimate, unsigned Hungarian 80's band imo.

A band I always wanted to hear more of is MAX PLANCK. They had an amazing song on the first "Metal Meltdown" compilation and I've heard they also made a split-7" (forgot with who). Very raw, energetic Power Metal w/ insane vocals!

GUTWRENCH & SINNER from "Etched in Steel". Also DEATHSLAYER were a killer band. NEPTUNE & SHYLOCK from "Metal Knights". Have demos from NEPTUNE and they sound great, something that i cannot claim for SHYLOCK -"The chosen one" was a hell of a track! No need for an ORION SWORD comment again, "Atomic war" was bloody great and i'm still waiting for a goddamn upload of their demos

Also RACE AGAINST TIME's track fuckin' ruled! But HELL's trax were even better 8)

BTW, I have an 8 track demo from MAX PLANCK. Filthy and raw heavy/power metal. A good and possible future upload maybe...

I would really that these bands could have release more stuff:
DISORDER and FIRING SQUAD from At the foot of brutality compilation.

And SANTUARIO, PERFORMANCES, VIRUS, AVENGER from SP METAL compilations.

DAN: I almost forgot. For Satan's sake, please don't upload OS on megaupload. I usually hit the supersonic dl speed of 0,1 K/s on it, so a complete dl is something more than a wet dream for me. Rapidshare is prefered.

The belgian band Death Squad. Violent fast thrash who were on the 'Power Metal - Heavy Metal from BeNeLux"compilation album from 1988

They only had one demo 'Awaiting the sentence' from 1987.

Awesome material and unbelievable that they didn't got signed.

Andreas, do you have that demo? I've been looking for Death squad material for years now! I've also never heard that compilation, is it worthwhile and easy to find? And while I'm at it, ever heard Chronic death and Criminal judge?
