Witchfinder General Live '83 (new version) worth getting?

Post by mega_lodon »

I have the 1st pressing on CD. To be honest, I'm really disappointed with its sound. I mean I can live with poor sound but not to the extend like this one. There's totally no energy in the live recordings and I even started day dreaming after the 3rd song  . I know a newer 'corrected' version has been out for a while now. I just wonder is there a significant improvement in the sound on this newer version?

The newer version has the tape speed corrected, so the songs aren't as 'draggy' sounding. IMO it's a very good peformance, but it is not a high-octane, barn-burning performance either. I'd recommend it, but don't expect it to be OTT-full of energy

I got it last week for my birthday and it sounds good. Tracklist is pretty cool (at least they didn't include Music), but vocals suck. So is a nice album, but not a MUST have.

Well, I thought it was a rather dissapointing release. You'll find the first 7" on my blog, btw:

That 7" has just been rereleased via their "buried amonst the ruins" cd.

Indeed, officially re-released by NWN on cd (and vinyl in the near future) so you can delete it

I also find the vocals awesome; Zeeb has a very characteristic voice that fits the music perfectly

Yep mate and I think we should be thankful of such a release as it's not if they have an abundance of recorded material from the time.....I remember they were one band in particular who I hardly ever saw on a tradelist back in the day.

I like his vocals in the albums, but live (or at least in this recording) he sucked.
