good luck finding anything in NY, I was there in April and only found some new releases non-metal, nothing old & rare. If you really want to find something in a shop you need to hit the road and go digging in the small towns around the Northeast, which of course can be a lot of work.

A whole 20 million city and no 80's metal stores. It seems hard to believe.

They are there, they're just not easy to find for non-locals. It's just too damn big a place. And the stores that are there have probably been looted years ago by local 80s metal fans.

haha, that's the case everywhere. For non-locals it's indeed difficult to find those small shops. Finding a mega Virgin store is far easier but then the most "obscure" thing you get there is Maiden and Priest :)

In New York it's just so much harder than most other cities. Probably because the metal stores are further away from the places where most tourists stay.

OK Rob is correct you might do better hitting the road BUT I did great in NY early Nov.

I only know of 2 TRUE metal stores left there ZigZag Records & Slipped Disc

http://www.slippeddiscrecords.com/
http://www.zigzagrecords.com/

Zig Zag is on Ebay As Leghorn23 and they have another store in Brooklyn that is not listed on there site but if you call they can help you with it.

Slipped Disc doesn't have a lot of vinyl and is now starting to close done BUT I do great there every time I go(Once a year) Chinatown LP $10, Savatage "Par" $5, ........

If you really have some tiome and want to dig let me know and I can send you a PM with more info

Then how do you explain that a local that knows every record store that might have metal (Jeff Brown from Iron Rainbow took me and we spent most of 2 days going to a bunch of places) took me to a lot of shops and I found very little. Of course I spent some money but I found nothing I was really searching for. But of course that doesn't mean that records might not show up sometime at a shop every now and then of course.
