BV is below average melodic metal. No wonder since both their albums came out on Metal Enterprises. The other ones I haven't heard.

GRIEFENHAGEN have released in 1988 an album called "Only for the Night".
I've heard it today, it's rather average heavy rock.

I haven't heard much Austrian steel that impressed me. BLOWING FREE, BLIND PETITION, MANIAC and NO BROS are all below average stuff in my ears. I liked the GALLOWS POLE debut though - great epic hard rock! Anyone got their über-rare 2nd LP?
Hello Dan, I have the second GALLOWS POLE lp, just in case you´re interested in trading.

I just might be, since the review at Metalpage.de sounded very interresting. We're talking about the "We wanna come home" LP right?

Yes we are. Methinks it is quite a classy album, so the propaganda at metalpage.de is justified for this lp (sometimes they push even total crap there). My copy is m/m, so if you wanna have it...

hmmm, I think that Maniac is just average, while Blind Petition and Burning Vision are as well not my cup of tea.
I only listened to "Don`t Stop At The Top" and one other song of Happl on a compilation and they were both very boring.
Gallows Pole`s "We Wanna Come Home" is not bad. Has some nice tracks.
My favourite band is definitely Blowin Free! Gary Wheeler is a great vocalist imo. Moreover all their three songs on the "Ready To Fire" compilation are simply brilliant and undoubtly the best Metal that ever came from Austria. Just listen to the hymn "Take It All"!!!!

SABOTAGE dont ring a bell, but BABA JAGA is killer Power Metal!! They only did a few tracks on Sampler LPs, no releases on their own.

Other Austrian Metal releases worth checking out (although they are not killer):
MAJESTY - DESPERATE NIGHT 7"
PEGAZUZ - END OF THE WORLD 7"
SEX TIGER - BAD BOYS OF ROCK'N'ROLL LP
STONEHENGE - VIENNA 7" (not really good, but ultra-rare, so for all of you collectors...)

I like MORTICIAN, GALLOWS END and MANIAC best. And NO BROS did an UBER-TRACK on the otherwise boring READY FOR THE ACTIoN LP called SECOND KING OF DARKNESS. CULT!

And finally a special tip for PsychoDaN:
DRAHDIWABERL -> mix of Hard Rock, mabye some Metal, and tons of crazyness. Total fucking austrian Madness...

Pegasus is form 1990, Majesty has no year imprinted, I think must be end of 80ies.
Sex Tiger is 1989 on Breakin Records, they also did quite a lot of singles (like NO BROS, Stonehenge is from 1983.

Another bands not yet mentioned are VOLTAGE "Down to Hell" LP 1986 and BALLROOM BLITZ "Electric Overdose". Both not essential.

I must say that Austria is a pretty weak country actually. The only band that I would give 10/10 would be Mortician! What a splendid EP to be 1987! Maybe I should add that I haven't heard too much from Austria...

By the way, when I'm already talking about them, I have to ask if someone has Mortician's demo called Street Warrior? Would be very fun to hear!

STONEHENGE is from 1983, but ONLY recommended for collectors (if ever seen). Musically too weak to pay a high price.
DRAHDIWABERL did several records in the 80ies, its not really metal, but the sick austrian humor and weird music might make it interesting for strange guys like DaN.
If you wanna order anything from FORGOTTEN STEEL, you can pay however you like. Cash in letter is not recommended, I only once had problems with this way of payment, still there remains a little risk.
If you want I can mail you my brand-new list.

@Dawnwatcher: Austria is none of my prefered countries as well. But it has some nice records to offer. I have one MORTICIAN Demo tape but that is called BREAK THE RULES.
