Land of the Free pt.1 is a masterpiece of the genre,no more to be said about that.

Is LotF Part II even worth checking out then? If there is some return to the good songs on LotF (my favorite GR album), I'd be interested, but don't need a bunch derivative ideas converted to an album...

I don't generally like the idea of trying to do a "part II" so long after the original, esp when the band's sound seems to have changed since then (I found their recent stuff rather dull...after Powerplant I stopped buying)...

Yeah I stopped buying after Powerplant as well! I can't tell you whether to buy it or not,after all,it's the internet age dammit,check out some samples,download a song,whatever! Part IIs suck as an idea,I totally agree,it's only a way to draw attention.

yeah, the snips i've heard are decent enough, was just wondering about how it seemed overall, esp when compared to recent output...in any case, i won't make a rush to pick it up....thanks for your comments - sounds like you and i are in similar camps with our affection for the band's last few releases... 8^)

I wonder why this particular one is called Land of the Free II. Face it, all albums from LotF and onwards have sounded roughly the same, this is no different. After listening to to LotF II a few times it's pretty obvious this is the same album Kai have been doing over and over for more than ten years now. I liked Majestic (released 2005) a lot, that one had some smashing songs. But this... certainly not bad, but I fear I will not listen to it many times.

I got the new Gamma Ray CD and I've listened to it about a dozen times. I think that even though it doesn't live up to their usual high standards, it's definitely a good album. The title is pretty lame, though. The lyrics don't have anything to do with the original Land of the Free... this one isn't even a concept album! I guess Kai saw his former band release a sequel that made everyone cream their jeans (even though it was a worthless pile of shit) and decided to do the same. On the plus side, at least there aren't any nu-metal riffs, which have been showing up on some other German power metal albums lately.

I guess I can understand why a Gamma Ray fan wouldn't be interested in this disc or No World Order!, but Majestic is a completely different story! That album fucking kills! Almost every track is a masterpiece!

Anyone heard ONE STEP BEYOND? It is said to be killer mix of Death Metal and reggae+ some other influences I haven't remember.

But there has been Blind Idiot God to mix stravinsky (perhaps), thrash and reggae-dub

I really like the new albums of Desaster and Nifelheim. Warning too, but that's on the edge of 2006. Can't really think of any others, I hardly ever buy new releases anymore.

OK precious membership. Since the year 2007 is running out of time, or out of itself, I'd like that you'd share your opinion on it. Those of you who are tuned to what is going on in contemporary Metal production at least. I wonder if you have spotted anything you would consider tectonic for the future developments in our well respected genre. Be it in Old, New or No School departments.
