Tonight I came home with my free 2-record prize. And I can only say one thing:
You man, you absolutely completely rule!
And as there's no feedback section here, that sure deserves a thread of its own.
I even felt jealous. I now want to find some old vinyl I don't need and post a question with it as a prize! If Corroseum members do the same we'll have the biggest Metal Trivial Pursuit on the web!

FRIGID BICH: Anger, Attitude, Anarchy
A little known band hailing from the streets of New York in the 80's. I only knew their name by the OPM catalogue and now I have the opportunity to listen to this record. What I hear is some AWESOME street sounding NWOBHM like early US-metal with an enormous amount of energy and utter dedication. Tracks like "Call Us Robinhoods" and the utterly devastating "Jack The Ripper" are prime examples of early US-metal at it's best. Somehow they remind me of the mighty ZOETROPE from Chicago, another band known for it's utterly devastating and poser slashing metal mayhem, the latter is more aggressive and thrash sounding then Frigid Bich, but the "street-feeling" is the same. All in all, A high quality record from a great complete overlooked band. Well, thanks a million for this one.

I got the record today! Great surprice when I saw that it was Commandment - Engraved in stone LP. I've wanted to hear this band for quite a time now when I've seen their single on ebay and so on. It was killer. Reminded me of Solar Eagle a bit! Fast, heavy and great heavy metal, top notch stuff straight through the whole record. The singer crushes too! Have only had time to listen to the record once, but the first impression is: Fucking great stuff and I'm sure it will grow and get even better! The vocals destroys too. Thanks ALOT for this LP John!

Dervish- 'some monsterism'.
VERY impressed with this album! 'Cyclone' was definitely one of the stand-out tracks on 'Kent Rocks', and I'm happy to report that the other tracks on 'Some Monsterism' are of an equally high calibre. The strength of the band lies in a clean, smooth vocalist with hints of Plant and Lee showing through at times (but thankfully not too much
) and a gritty guitar sound that is equally adept at both laying down catchy rhythms ('Warlords', 'Cyclone') and lighting it up with some sizzling leadwork ('Hold On'). I'm not great at making comparisons among bands, but I'd say there are similarities to bands like Bollweevil (in the guitar tone and catchy, bouncy song structures), early Lucifer's Friend (in the smooth but hooky rhythms) and early Tokyo Blade (in the clean vocals, great sense of melody, and white-hot guitar breaks).
Grade: B+ (this is as high as I'll go for any record after only 5 listens)- A strong record with plenty of great songs; definitely one to have in the collection!
Thanks again John!

I like that one a lot, some real killer songs; only VERY little drawback are the sometimes complete over the top leads in some songs; for the rest it's topnotch US-SteelDirty Rocker wrote:I got the record today! thanks john, it was a cool surprise to receive the
DARK PROPHETS " Metal Storm/Rainbowed Waters" 7". Obscure u.s. metal slays.
this A-side of this single opens up with the sound of thunder and rain and breaks right into a galloping hymn of scorching 80's metal, clear mid tempo vocals and good solid guitar riffing.
the b-side "Rainbowed Waters" is a more melodic (and the weaker) tune about pollution and toxic waters (hence the name).
I cannot think of other bands this is similar to. Maybe the vocalist is a little similar to the TEMPEST singer. A middle of the road 7", with the really solid a-side. Pity it never came with a picture sleeve, but still a great single and I'm quite happy to have it.

Did you just get it?
I've noticed something slightly wrong with my vinyl. Side B sounds somewhat off. I think this is due to the album being printed on thin slightly inferior quality vinyl. One of my other OPM vinyls is a bit wobbly of shape too.
The music itself is incredible though. Great Zeppelin-esque metal (similar to Diamond head with vocals similar to Plant and Harris too) mixed with the more powerful sound of bands like Savage.
