I am surprised no one talked about this very obscure gem. If anyone has a copy of this record or have the rip files, send it my way. I would love to hear it
Bit of a story:
Atsushi Matsuura is a Japanese guitarist well known for being in the band The Dawn (one of the most popular rock bands in the Philippines) replacing the founding guitarist in 1989 after the founding guitarist passed in 1988 due to unfortunate circumstances. Matsuura released an album with The Dawn the same year before leaving the music business in 1990.
Before he joined The Dawn, he did a solo album called Incubus in 1987 which they have a music video for one of their songs Angel of Darkness

I'd never heard of it before, but that's quite a cool song. Sounds a little like something from MSG's 'Assault Attack', while the singer's perhaps channelling Led Zep's 'Achilles' Last Stand'.
The guitarist is more tasteful & restrained in his playing than i'd expected from an '87 release. That was the era of the over-shredder so i'd wrongly expected some of that might appear to derail the mood, but thankfully not.

Good observation. My first impression of the track, definitely had a Earthshaker (JPN) influence.
I hope I get hands on a copy some day knowing it would be a solid or a decent rocker

Yeah, I can see Earthshaker as a more probable influence.
I mentioned that MSG album as much of it has a comparable atmosphere to the Matsuura track. Several songs rely on the muscular rhythm section of Glen & McKenna to really drive things rather than using riffs as the vehicle to propel the songs. I think this particular track illustrates well what i mean & it has a very similar vibe & structure to the Atsushi Matsuura song.
