The North-American Heavy Metal 7" Guide (Ye Olde Obscure)
Re: The North-American Heavy Metal 7" Guide (Ye Olde Obscure)
I hear you on the Pawnz review Khnud. That cover is one of the best out there.
Too bad they didn't include their "One Night Alone With You" on this 7".
That would have elevated the whole thing.

Yes, that was a WAY better song than the ones on the EP.apollo.ra wrote: ↑Sun Apr 14, 2024 9:02 am I hear you on the Pawnz review Khnud. That cover is one of the best out there.

I echo everything DaN said here, you've outdone yourself with this new sampler Khnud. Your song choices, the stylistic variety & attention to pacing are all executed perfectly making for a great listen from front to back. There are even a few songs included which i already knew & thought were merely 'okay' that sound far better to me within the flow you've created here.
Of the unknown quantities i'm particularly impressed by the contributions from Lace, Buster Cherrie, Stormbringer & Final Dawn. The Lace song has a particularly catchy & satisfying loping main riff that's a total 'earworm', how on earth have i not heard this until now? The Stormbringer track benefits greatly from those characterful Rhett-Forrester-in-drunken-pirate-mode vocals, & though i usually dislike keyboards in Metal, they manage to make use of them here in an interesting way that doesn't neuter the sound one iota.
Buster Cherrie somehow manage to manifest something very close to the classic NWoBHM sound despite their geographical dislocation from that scene and with a conviction that most of their US peers just couldn't muster in those bygone days. Splendid stuff to my olde ears. Thanks for introducing me to some new old favourites.
Take a well-deserved bow for a job well done.

I realise that an update is long overdue as usual, but I currently have my hands full helping out with a certain book featuring North American metal singles. So please accept my apologies for being so inactive, it won't last forever.

Looking forward to both the new entries here as well as the revised John's book (that's the one right?). Any estimation on when it will be published?
Re: The North-American Heavy Metal 7" Guide (Ye Olde Obscure)
Not sure. It's being released by Sonic Age Records, I'm not involved in the actual production. My contributions are restricted to adding more records and fact checking existing entries.

No worries Khnud, whenever you have the time is soon enough. Every update is always well worth the wait.

Don't forget to check out recently released book by Alexandros Anesiadis - Heroes of the Metal Underground: The Definitive Guide to 1980s American Independent Metal Bands, and especially the part - Never forget the warriors. Hundreds of little-known American bands are briefly mentioned there.

This book you mentioned is the one that the "draft" version was given for free in this forum several years back?

Yes, it's finally getting released properly.

When's the next update for this? Love this project deeply

Glad you enjoy it! Sorry for being (way) overdue on updates. My wife's been quite ill recently so there's been very little time and energy left for reviewing records. But expect more updates in the near future.Arealdocjep509 wrote: ↑Mon Nov 11, 2024 6:30 am When's the next update for this? Love this project deeply
