Proto-metal song thread

I thought it would be interesting to make a thread about songs which seem way ahead of their time. Not necessarily bands which played heavy all the time.

I suppose there is no need to post "Rumble" again as on other forums, everyone has heard that one and knows about it, I hope.

That Collectors song was a new one to me, nice stuff.
Difficult to know with threads like this what prople are already well aware of, but i'm guessing that most folks won't be too familiar with either of these.

The Sound Of Imker - Train Of Doomsday (1969) Holland


The Outsiders - Inside Of Me (1968) Sweden


The Outsiders song has a startling full on Lemmy bass tone several years before the man himself switched to the 4 string & The Sound Of Imker were likely aiming for a different sound to the one they achieved, but instead captured something with a dense intensity that feels Metallic to me.
Better known, but not by nearly enough people, the US band Banchee released great 2 albums in 69/70, both of which are predominantly rooted in psych, but have plenty of outstanding heavy passages to contrast with the more ethereal stuff. Check out this epic from their debut & tell me its doesn't predict the compositional style & structure of Metal songs from later in the genre's history.

Not as old as most of the (great) stuff that already has been posted, but still counting as Proto Metal, I think. El Reloj from Argentina sounded in 1976 like The Weird Lord Slough Feg would sound 25 years later. Great stuff, if you ask me....

Good stuff, that twin guitar attack is very redolent of early 70s Wishbone Ash. If you enjoy that style you should check out the 1st 3 Epitaph albums & the lone LPs by Automatic Fine Tuning (A.F.T.) & Luigi Anada Boys, they're full to the brim with similar dual harmony guitar excess.
There were so many great heavy group from South America during this time although with just a few exceptions most of those bands left just a lone LP or a one off 45 or EP to remember them by.

One of the great things about the bands from this era was how unrestricted they were before the rules were set. You could have a really heavy band who just happened to have a violin player, or a brass section, latin percussion, or perhaps every other song was acoustic, and not only was this accepted, it was generally embraced & encouraged. Anything went.
Here's T2 going the whole hog, as heavy as anyone else in 1970, but they throw in everything else they can think of along the way & somehow it still works beautifully.

I know (and have) the first three Epitaph, T2, A.F.T. (actually one of my all time faves from the 70s!!) and Luigi Anada Boys (here I only have the rerecordings, the original stuff seems to be hard to find). I really do LOVE all the mentioned albums/bands as I seem to never get enough of this sound.

I guessed you'd likely be clued up on those bands from the band you posted, but i figured the recommendations were wothwhile just in case you or anyone else reading this thread maybe hadn't heard them.
Totally agree with your recommendation of Warfaring Strangers: Darkscorch Canticles, it's a great cream of the crop collection. The sequel, Warfaring Strangers: Acid Nightmares is similarly great.
Also very worthwhile is the 9 volumes deep (and counting) 'Brown Acid' series from RidingEasy Records:

They're pretty well known, but for some reason I never listened to Vanilla Fudge. From 1968 and the whole album is kind of like this.
