OK, much of that Malefice album might not fit our definition of metal, but this:

is worlds apart from this:

Damn, the music on that Stage record is utterly appalling, what a waste of a cool cover.
This is another one to avoid, despite the Metallic sounding band name & cover art, unless you have a liking for sub-par Pat Benatar style female fronted AOR:

I remember liking this, but that was 30 years ago. I might have to give it a listen again.bigfootkit wrote: This is another one to avoid, despite the Metallic sounding band name & cover art, unless you have a liking for sub-par Pat Benatar style female fronted AOR:

For me, it has a good uptempo Hard Rock opener ('Bitch') and a hypnotic moody closer ('The Stand'), but inbetween those two songs it veers between the average & the downright insipid. Fair play to the guitarist though, he almost rescues it.doomedplanet wrote:I remember liking this, but that was 30 years ago. I might have to give it a listen again.
I meant that the cover and band name could make you think it's gonna be a Heavier propsition than it actually is, not that it's absolutely terrible. They waited for their final LP 'Rockit' to become utterly appalling, they go the whole AOR/Pop-Rock hog on that one.
Apparently they released a completely different album also called 'Gone Too Far' in 1984 on Albatross Records, which has different recordings, mixes and songs and is meant to be rawer and less polished sounding which would be more appealing to me i think, but i've never heard it.

Anyone know if it's worth hearing?

I like this album!
The other Gone too Far LP you where talking about is the first one and 3 songs are on both LP's.
I do not hear a difference soundwise, soundquality is very good on both.
But the songs on the first one are better indeed. Only problem is that "Mama we're all crazy know" song!
They made a third LP called "Rockit" wich is poppier and bader.

Thanks for the info on the original 1984 version of 'Gone Too Far'. Didn't know they covered Slade on it.
Sounds like it may be worth hearing, i must have a trawl round the net to see if it's available to download anywhere.

Re: "WARNING! NOT METAL!"-gallery...
Trivia corner : would you believe that the guitarist from Rubicon ended up in Ozzy's band?
Based on that limp track you posted neither would i, but Rubicon did indeed feature one Brad Gillis on guitar who was the guitarist on Oz's live Talk Of The Devil album, before leaving to form Night Ranger with his Rubicon bandmate Jack Blades.
Ironically considering the Ozzy connection, the sleeve of that Rubicon album could have been used as a Dio cover.

Well, there were quite a few of those cases with session/live musicians, right? I mean, wasn't an ELO drummer part of Black Sabbath for a few years?
